2.0 motor question.

i test drove a 2000 se with the 2.0 and it seems to me a little rough in running. it may be because i am not used to the 2.0 naturally aspirated motors anymore.

is this motor generally "loud" and "rough" compared to my vw gti? just want to make sure on problems.

thanks in advance
jeff

You probably drove an SPI car, they are noisy and a bit rough.

yah don't buy the lower end engine...its only a lil more for a zetec which is a brand new motor practically...those make a tab bit of noise but nowhere near as much as the other...the old motor gets 2 mpg more then the new one...go with the new one...well good luck!

SPI... split port intake. They are a good reliable motor. ZTEC has 20 more hp. It shouldn't be to rough. Find another to test drive so you can compare.

my biggest concern is the all the recalls. and i have talked to several people as well as read reviews that say to stay away from these cars.

no bashing from me to all of you, just trying to make a sound decision for a car for my wife.

Recalls are a non-issue for the Focus these days. However, if you are looking at a 2K model, well, yea, they had several recalls but were the first model year in the USA. However, it is easy enough to check a vin to see that the 2k model was brought in for the corrective procedures.
Bear in mind, the Ford Focus is the worlds best selling car. It is has been one of Car and Driver magazines top 10 cars in the world since its intoduction. Did it get bad press because of the recalls in 2K? Yup, and Ford has been trying to live that down ever since. But the basic design of the car is wonderful. It's best feature-handling. It handles as well as cars twice its price.
Because of their low resale value, and the recalls of 2K, I'd only be looking at 2001-2002 models in a used Focus.

PS The Zetec is such a great motor, I wouldn't even consider a Focus w/o it . (Unless, of course we are talking about the new, more powerful, Duratec motor-with which I have no experience.
