ZX3 totaled, get another ZX3 or SVT?

Sad to say someone ran a red light and t-boned me pretty hard. I'm ok, unfortunately my ZX3 is totaled and I got $8800 for it. The ZX3 2.3l was great and had nice power and handling for a commuter. I've been searching around and it seems that the svt focus is as quick or maybe a tick quicker than a 2.3l zx3. Is this true? I'd be willing to fork out some extra cash for a noticeably quicker car but if they are the about the same I think I might just get another zx3. What would you guys do, keeping in mind that whatever car I get will remain bone stock.

For your purposes I'd suggest.......

..sticking with something that has the 2.3
.
I'm in California also. I don't have any experience with the SVT, but we have 2 Foci with the 2.3 PZEV - my '03 ZTW wagon (auto), and my daughter's '04 ZX3 (stick). I've driven Foci with the standard 2.0 Zetec, and there is NO comparision to that motor at all. I don't recall if your post/sig indicated whether you had a manual or automatic, so keep in mind that for commuting with the SVT, you'll be doing a lot of rowing of the gears (6-speed).
.
Throwing another wrench in the works, as long as you're looking, you may as well check out a Mazda3 - the same 2.3 motor is available - and it has a bit more power.
.
Good luck.

The SVT is going to have a bit more kick to it over the Pzev. I don't mind shifting gears. I wouldn't have it any other way. The seats in the SVT are far more comfortable then those in the regular ZX3 and if you find an EAP car it's even another step up in comfort. The down side is that it requires 91 octane or better.

i think the SVT is a better all around car (if you are keeping it bone stock), nicer interior, better suspension, and nicer looking!

go svt if you dont plan on modding it, otherwise the 2.3 is an amazing engine that does great with bolt ons, and if your lookin for a quicker car the 2.3 will come out ontop, but the svt is much nicer overall and a much rarer car, but hard to say 5 speed 2.3l hatch are also rare

Stock for stock, go for the SVT. The 2.3l really shines when modded, but since the car will remain stock, means the SVT will be the better buy, by far.

look for an SVT, unless you don't want to deal with 91 octane gas.

SVT = 170 HP
2.3 ZX3 = 150 something, right?

SVT with a reflash. A reflash will do wonders with added low end power, overall driveability and also, a few MPG more.

There is not a fathomable reason to choose an SVT over anything equipped w/ a Duratec.

This is coming from someone who has owned 6 Zetec Foci, 1 of which was an SVT.
