Help me buy a Focus

I am in the market for a new commuter car and I have been seriously considering a Focus ZX3. I found a black 2001, AT, with 47k and an asking price of $4995. I've done some checking on this site and notice lots of recalls with 2000's, but what about 2001? Is this a good deal and what I should I be aware of? Thanks guys.

2001 also had the recalls and the early 02s. but once you get them done, you should have a great car. and with that low of miles, you have lots of life left in it. sounds like a good buy to me.

am I going to go broke getting this done, or does Ford cover it? I assume the car is out of warranty, and is there a time limit on the recalls?

All of your questions are sort of yes and no because Ford puts some time and mileage limits to warranties, and recalls or 'service bulletins' so I do not know. I have an early 02, I have had very little problems with my ZX3. Rear wheel bearing went out at around 28,000 miles; I had to fix that myself - 200.00 bucks. That and some very light rubbing on the doors from not being aligned perfectly. I have fuel pump recall (I guess) but mine has yet to give out.

I would say that if you want a car to just commute with there are a lot of choices, The Focus a good one, if you want something to mod out and have fun with on the weekends yet still be a practical car, there are less choices and the Focus is one of the best all around and least expensive for that.

Maybe someone else has some facts about the warranty coverage or recalls. Do a search, there will more than likely be some answers to your question.

Sounds good. Is there a certain year to look for, or to stay away from. It kinda sounds like an 03 or newer would help alleviate some of the problems. I just don't really see myself driving a civic but that is my other choice.

95% of the kinks were worked out by the 2002 models. I'd go for a 2002 year or newer.
