Introduction and Carfax

Hey guys.

I have a couple of friends who've driven Focuses since I met them, one of them is on here under the name SilverStriderKL, I think.

Anyway, currently I drive a 1991 Nissan 300ZX NA 2+2. I love the power and handiblity that it has, but I hate the reliablity. Every month something breaks on it and I end up spending more on repairs than on improvements. And it's not what I want, so I'm selling it.

Right now I'm looking at a black 2004 SVT Focus, but I don't want to pay for CarFax, so if anybody has that, would you please run this VIN for me? Thanks.

My plan for the Focus is to mod it enough to make it faster than my NA Z, but I hear you have to change the transmission for the Focus to hold over 200 HP, which sucks. Then once I've done that, I'll save up and buy a Twin Turbo 300ZX as my weekend car and have the Focus as my DD.

But I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun with the Focus! Thanks for reading this. Peace.

I doubt that you would even need to upgrade the clutch when you hit 200hp, unless you are planning to turbo. There are actually a couple of guys pushing 250whp/~210wtq from Powerworks superchargers (Eaton M62s) on the stock clutch. Because of the whole power/weight thing, you don't even have to hit 200whp for the SVT to technically be faster (though RWD is a lot of fun).

"handiblity" - Is that because you have a good suspesionation in your car.

Be nice to the guy, he's new here. That does make me wonder though, Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear presenter) has described the handling of the 300ZXs as dangerous...

Only focus you'd need to worry about the tranny with is the automatic one.

Sorry about that, it was 1:43 A.M. in the morning when I posted that. My brain was fried, I meant handling ability and somehow they got turned into one word. Thanks for the help, StriderKL told me the people on here were very helpful. Glad to see he's right.

Anyway, thanks for clarifying the transmission issue, the person who told me that has an auto himself and was thinking I was going to get an automatic too. After finding out the manuals will hold up to over 200, I'm sticking with a manual. That's good to hear about those cars capable of 250 on just a stock clutch, that's pretty good.

As for the Z's handling, it was made to go into corners fast and exit them fast. It's not a sports car, it's a GT, Grand Touring. I'm not sure what Clarkson meant about its handling, but it's definitely saved my neck several times. It also let me avoid hitting a dog twice after it'd already been hit by someone in front of me. But that's my .02.

I just thought I could restore it but I found out that this 17 year old car needed more money to return it to its top capability than I have for it. So it's going. I'm just waiting for somebody to buy it before I can put down a deposit on the Focus and get a carfax on it.

If you post the VIN to Mike on the Hilbush Ford forum here he can run the Oasis report for you, that will be even better than Carfax since Oasis will tell you exactly what work has been done.
BTW, if you do buy the car - Mike is one of the great resources on this list, both of cheap genuine Ford parts and general Ford and car info...

^^its a good thing you are ok with a manual because if you are looking at an SVT, they only come with a 6-speed.

Hey, thanks, Stealth! I don't want to keep the VIN up any longer than I have to, so I'll post it over at Hilbish.

Heh, actually, I don't know how to drive manual, but no better way to learn it than by getting one, right?
