Oh well, so much for any hopes of a diesel Focus coming to the US.

Oh, well I guess that puts an answer to the Diesel thread a bit ago. Funny, I never knew a diesel Focus was on the frnot burner over at Ford? Good to know they're at least toying with the idea, recognizing it could have potential. One thing I didn't like about the article was this point:
Quote:
Volkswagen sells a diesel Jetta small car in the United States, but its base sticker is $19,245 - $2,925 more than the uplevel four-door Focus ZTS. The prices include destination charges.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is it fair to make a comparison to a diesel VW and a Focus? I was under the impression that VWs (regardless of fuel system) would always be a more expensive option than a Focus.. so that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Anyways, good find Kneel.

too bad for Ford..my friend has a Focus Dti in Europe and they are pretty good with huge torque...besides they cost only a fraction higher then comfort levels but they are not as expensive as ST170, RS or the ghias...
i guess the Ford doesn't think there would be alot of diesel drivers around here...which is a cultural issue more than cost...cheers

These damn absurd fuel prices become the norm we will see many more diesels become available. If Ford had it together they would be first out of the chute with an affordable TDI Focus. Then I could overlook the styling and trade my nearly new 2.3 for one.

Too bad and DUMB! Marketing can change people's pre-conceived and misplaced notions when done right! The Focus Diesel would be a great new model NOW!
Ford doesn't want to confuse the public introducing the Escape Hybrid without I hope TOO MUCH of a premium over the standard gas versions. Introducing a Common Rail Diesel, as good as it is, is just too confusing, when Daimler Chrysler puts one into the ugly Jeep Liberty to compete with Ford's sexy Escape Hybrid.

BAD DECISION!
