New Focus!!! and some questions

Well I made a pretty big purchase this morning and I just wanted to get some more info so I feel more confident with this car. I have owned a lot of cars in my life and up to this point I have always been turned off by the Focus because it was the "escort replacement". Maybe not directly but thats what I have heard, which by itself is not a bad thing, but my mother had a '94 Escort GT which turned out to be a total lemon. But after talking with several co-workers and reading the reviews I finally pulled the trigger this morning after our Astro van started making "terminal" noises.(ie. excessive knocking when cold), and this after spending several thousand dollars on the drivetrain.

So my wife and I headed down to the dealer and got a 2007 Black Focus. I was told its the base model, and nothing more. There is no "se" or "ses" badges just straight meat and potatos. I know it has the 2.0 liter I-4 motor, but thats about it. I haven't gotten a chance to really go over this car with any intensity because I have been busy teaching my wife to drive a stick. But so far I am very impressed with the way it handles, and its definitely "peppy".

From everyones experience, is there anything I should watch for? What model is it? I plan on upgrading parts, but only as they need replacement. Who is a reputable manufacturer/retailer for the aftermarket. I don't want an all-out racer I just like spirited commuting.

You have the 'S' trim. And if you have a sedan, its a ZX4, if its a hatch, its a ZX3 or ZX5.

For parts, two places you can start is Focus Sport and F2 Focus; both make a variety of parts for the Duratec engine, and other Focus pieces.

Congrats, you'll find a lot more love here with your 2007 than if you had bought a 2008.

Do check out the performance section, there are some easy things you can do to your car to improve your experience. In the mean time, enjoy your new car.

Thank you for the warm responses. I do love the color. For some reason with the body lines it just jumped out at me on the lot. Don't worry about the pictures, I love taking them. I bought a photo album today to journalize the progress. I think it will go nicely next to the kid's photo books.

Has anyone covered warranty issues with Ford? I would like to do some work ASAP but I paid extra for a 10yr 100,000 mile plan. Do I have to have work done by only specific shops? Does Ford offer anything for the aftermarket?

Thanks again

troy

I'll tell you what: I also bought the 5 yr/75k mile extended warranty on my ZTS and even with all the work a "random" shop had done, they still honored anything that went wrong...of course when it was not because of a performance part. For example, they fixed a broken tranny mount and a bellhousing with a hole in it, but they did not fix a broken power steering line because of an aftermarket header installation. So don't worry about what you install as much as if you install it CORRECTLY, and if you are thinking about turbo- or supercharging I would wait till the warranty is up, if you can wait that long . Otherwise things like intakes, headers, exhaust, suspension, wheels, tires, sway bars...they shouldn't cause any problems if you install them well and right.

And I second that choosing the right color thing .

and good luck!
