Toyota owns part of Subaru????? And No Good words for the 08 Focus!!!!

Something I did not know. While readin the latest issue of MT i found out that right after GM sold their share of Subbie, Toyota bought a chunk of them. Hmm I wonder if toyota owning part of subbie has anything to do with the new Impreza's bland, conservative..corrola like styling.....just a thought ya know.

If you havent already this months MT is a great issue, besides the fact that it has the full coverage of MT COTY in it, which GM and Caddy won. As some of you may know, the focus was in this run for COTY...and sadly it got pretty harsh reviews...and the numbers that came outta the test we're pretty pathetic also....considering it was once a fun to drive car with "sports car" like handeling. Prob mostely cause of its lack of power, besides acceleration tests, which it did the worst in, it got some of the worst in handeling..something I remeber the focus being great at, and the braking distance was in the bottom of the pack...with the big dodge caravan besting it by a foot. We all new the new focus wasnt that great...but it just makes you feel worse about it when you see how it compares to other cars.....and minivans lol. Everything about the focus is pretty good.....for the late 90's when it first came out. The bar is much higher now in 08, and it should be, its almost 10 years since the focus was born.

Sadly its new sporty cousin the C30..did not get the great reviews the MT staff was hoping it too. It could be better, and looks sportier then it feels....this was the 2.0 model with the sportier suspension mind you.

HHuumm.. I Really Surprised by the focus Review... It now is an offical Bland Econo car.. One that fits as a rental car... IMO....

HHUUMM interesting about subaru.. I hope Toyota will let subies be subies and not have any influence on them...

If the Toyota/Lexus designers can do something with the Subaru models they will be all the better for it... have you seen the Tribeca? It's like an Aztec that got beat with an ugly stick.

Man i really hope the imprezas legacy(no pun intended) hasnt came to a stop. I have always had a thing for impreza's, when my friend got his 98 L 2dr i wanted to trade him, and still do since it looks like an RS now with all the goodies. I just hope the impreza doesnt turn into a gay corolla look a like. There is nothing rally inspiring about a corolla or much of anything toyota for that matter except the older celica's.

Motor trend is garbage. Some of the most biased reporting comes out of that magazine, its sad people take them serious.

At least the Tribeca WAS unique! ( I thought it was beautiful!) Now it looks like a Dodge Caravan.

New Impreza is so flat out ugly/neutered I really think the designers at Subaru had a major stroke.

08 Focus? Sheesh, what a loser. This politically correct crap has to come to a stop. We are turning into proles who don't dare have a thought or an idea for themselves. The 08 just screams rental car. And you know the guys at Ford are embarrassed by it when the only thing they can come up with to promote it is this SYNC thing and since I hate anything Microsoft does, its fitting the "new" focus should have them on board as well. Their sales slogan SHOULD be "Out of Focus"

Doesn't really surprise me that the "new" Focus is getting bad reviews when its underpinned by a decade-old platform (considering the first Euro Foci went on sale in 1998), the facelift makes it look like practically any other car on the road and has only had a modest 10 HP/TQ power increase from when it first went on sale here in 1999 (Zetec @ 130 HP to Duratec @ 140 HP.) GM is really starting to stick it to Ford and Chrysler with all of the Opel-based models that are popping up (Astra, G6, new Malibu.)

Ford isn't going to be around much longer unless they implement their global platform plan pretty soon...you can't keep selling the same stuff over and over again and just make it look different. I love my '02, but if there was a C1 based performance Focus for sale here you can bet I'd buy one. I don't need to buy an "updated" version of the car I already own...

First of all, Motor Trend is not the best rag to base your opinions on. They do let personal bias affect their reviews in a bad way.

Anyway, the handling issue seems to be a bad choice of tire. The new Focus had less body roll than the new Subaru WRX. The problem was a loss of grip. The main reason it scored low in handling on the MT test was because of braking. It also did not come in last in handling or accelleration. As a matter of fact, both the Scion xD and xB came in the last two slots for accelleration. The bottom line is that the Focus doesn't really compete with any of the other contenders. The Scion's are the closest competitors and it effectively beats them since handling is easier to resolve than accelleration. I mean, how many people on this site especially would buy a new car and not improve the suspension, tires, and basic bolt-ons? There is a ton of potential with the new Focus. I only wish they would build a new ST with the 2.3, manual trans and 4-wheel disc brakes.
