LX has the SPI engine, SE usually has the zetec, but sometimes a SE has the SPI.

SE gets cruise control and A/C I think

ABS is an option only in SE, as is alloy wheels. As in, you cannot get these on an LX.

EDIT:
I believe power everything is standard on an SE... but maybe not cuz Matt Stetz has manual windows.

SE has power windows and power locks as well as remote...
It doesn't have CC though, it's avaliable through an option.

I have an SE and it came with the cruze control, but it only had the steelies instead of the normal rims.

I have an SE and it came with the CC, but it only had the steelies instead of the normal rims. Plus it is power everything and included the single disc cd player with mp3 playback.

Well, there's a bit of a difference between the SE from 00-04 and from 05-07. In 00-04, the SE and LX were only available in sedan and wagon form. For 05-07, Ford went to a slightly more uniform configuration scheme with the S, SE, and SES designations - the bottom feeder zx3 now had the same stuff as that bottom feeder sedan. (from 00-04, the bottom feeder zx3's had alloys, foglamps, leather wrapped steering wheel, and a tach (among others)).

If I recall correctly, the 00-04 se sedans were configured in a similar fashion to the zx3 - semi nicely equipped, but stuff like a/c, power windows/locks, etc were parts of option packages. I seem to recall there being variants of the SE trim level - SE Comfort being the only one I can really remember - and that one had power windows/locks.

From 00-04

LX - bare bottom focus - SPI engine, power nothing, 14" steel rims, a/c and automatic transmission optional. I know that in 04, there was an LX comfort package that included power windows/locks. (one of my coworkers has one - I believe it's a PZEV as well)

SE - initially only zetec, but midway though 2000 - the model was splintered and base SE's came with the SPI. All had the classic original focus 15" alloys (the ten spoke wheels most commonly found on 00-04 zx3's) Had special editions - Street Edition, Sony Edition, had varying levels of trim in 01/02 - base, comfort, premium.

From 05-07,

S indicated that it was a bottom feeder - steel rims, manual everything, no tach, plastic steering wheel, and the only real options available were a/c and the safety package (abs & side impact airbags).

SE indicated that it had power windows/locks with keyless remote entry, a/c, the option of things like alloys, better radio, sunroof, leather, or option packages - se sport, convenience package, Street Appearance Package I or II

SES indicated that it had all of those option packages that the SE had (except for SAP), and the same set of options that the SE had. The SES comes with alloy wheels. Options were things like sunroof, Street Appearance Package, automatic transmission, and leather.

Sorry for the rant.

Then you got it with the convenience group. I got the sport package which has CC, alloy wheels, tachometer, fog lamps, and other stuff thats standard on the SES.

You know the SE with the sport group makes it almost entirely a Focus SES...

Except that the SES has 16" alloy wheels and a rear sway bar.

On the '08 models. The "S" model is still the bare bones. The "SE" model has power windows, locks, remote keyless entry etc, but mow it comes with a tach and 15" alloy wheels standard. You can get 16" alloy wheels and a rear sway bar as options.

The "SES" model is now treated somewhat like the '05-'07 ST sedan, (HA!). It only comes in four colors, like the ST, but that is where the similarities end.
