Stuck out in the snow

I didn't have any problems pulling out of my spot this morning in the snow, however I had problems just before. I started my car to let it heat up and start defrosting, then I got out to take the snow off the top with my brush. About half way through, I hear "shh-click". No way...my doors locked with my keys inside.

Now, last year, this never happened and I took even longer to de-snow my car than this year. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone have a work around that doesn't include leaving my door open?

I'm fairly certain you can turn off the autolock. Look in your manual. It will involve using the ignition and turning it on and off so many times, etc...

I thought the car had to be going 4mph for the auto-lock to engage?

Had this happen to me on my first Focus. It's one of those strange Ford things. My Dad also volunteers for the local Cop Dept. and drives cop cars to and from the repair shops...the Ford house told him they pretty often have cops locking themselves out of the Crown Vics this way...

Is this a problem with the older Foci? I leave my car running all the time with the keys in and never had this problem.

Hey Mr-914,
This happened only once when I just had the car. Since then I got a remote starter installed so no more problems with locking doors and keys inside. Check your manual for info on how to disable this. Good luck and be safe.
P.S. nice to see a fellow town member
