Check out this road race shifter!

I ran across this on honda-tech. The owner calls it a FLP road race shifter. I love it. It has so much rally spirit. And aparently the throw is short and crisp. I would imagine with the amount of autocross and racing the focus see's, someone should make something like this for our cars. I would love to put this in my svt project.

He even had this pic in his thread showing the relation to the focus wrc src setup.

and the thread is located here:

The throw is not determined by how long the top of the shifter is, its the bottom. And the idead is here to have it closer to the wheel. You can downshift and toss teh car into a turn much faster with your hand closer to the wheel. Does anyone have any useful info on this??

I found the manu site that provides some pretty good info on the design phil. of this style shifter.

well...^^that is very true.

it does look well made. however i drive 50-60 miles a day...and quite a bit of that is at freeway speeds and i LOVE the spot where my shifter it.

i personally would not like that in my car. the interior of the car isnt set up for it. JMO

sorry, but its not even close to a rally shifter in alot of ways.
and being that tall the way the focus shifter base is designed youd do nothing but constantly break the base due to the leverage. all it would take is one hard shift while not thinking and your done for the day.
see why noones designed one?

(rally cars use air shifters...)

I don't know what the manual shifter assembly looks like down there, but I don't see why it would be hard to design a new bracket for it that is relatively strong.

Well, I have an zx3 with a plastic base, 100k miles and never broke mine. I think it is people banging gears when it is not needed. The svt has a metal base, so i could see it being stronger, as well I have heard some mustang metal bases will work. I have driven a lot of shifters avail for the focus, and I hate them all. And as it being like a rally, I meant asthetically, with it up nearer to the wheel.

Im not here to argue whether whether one of these would good, I am here to ask if anyone makes one.
