Question '08 Focus vs. '09 Pontiac Vibe

I was looking at purchasing a new Focus and saw on MyRide.com Pontiac's 2009 Vibe. It looks pretty tight.

Any thoughts?

I agree, that is one nice looking car for that class. I always thought the old Vibes looked pretty stupid, but the 09 looks fairly nice.

yep, i'm diggin the new vibe. not a fan of the current models, but the 09 is a nice progression. clearly a vibe, but a lot sharper, sleek, aggressive.

The Vibe is the same chassis and drive line as the Toyota Matrix. I wonder if you can get one with the GT-S motor.

I'm glad Pontiac is doing away with all the ridiculous body cladding they are notorious for.

Yeah that is one good-looking car, I've thought that since I saw it (talking about the '09--the current one is ugly!). I'd own it...just would have to take off the "Pontiac" emblems .

In fact, I'd MUCH rather own that than the new '08 Focus. I feel sorry for you people that are starting to like the '08 haha...it's STILL ugly...

The engine lineup has changed, quite a bit. The old Vibe/Matrix lineup got the 1ZZ-FE Corolla engine in the X and XR, and the 2ZZ-GE in the XRs, which was the same engine as the Celica GT-S, with a retune to make it a little more linear and livable. The new lineup has a new engine family, the exact codes escape me, but it comes with a 1.8 or a 2.4. The 2.4 I believe is the same as the tC's engine, as well as the base Camery engine, somewhere around 170hp. The 1.8 is not the same as the old 1ZZ, which is good, as it was regarded by some to be one of the worse Toyota engines in recent memory. The 2ZZ was contracted to Yahama for design, was really very good and shared little past the mounting locations with the 1ZZ.
