Sick of Hybrid Talk!

I might get slammed for this but who knows...
I just wanna know who is getting sick of all this talk about Hybrid Vehicles being the Greatest thing on the Planet..? Everytime I turn on the TV they are talking about being Green and Hybrids...
There's nothing Wrong with Being Green.. But its becoming kind of stupid now.. Celebrities are the Worst.. "I own a Prius so I can save the ice capps." Although they still have their private Jets and 10000 Square foot homes sucking up all this Power...
Its now a fashion thing to be green..
Again there is nothing wrong with cutting down on polutants. But I think people are taking it and Running with it...
Anyone else want to chime in and give an opinion??
What does FF think about this New Hybrid Fashion statement..????

Note:Mods if this Belongs in the General Chat Please feel free to put it there..

I get pissed when I see countless professors at my school driving priuses. One is such a douche about it that hes posted a Toyota ad next to his office that says "Professor's Prius: 46.5473 MPG. Pretty good don't you think?"

I want to write a response along the lines "Sure, but is it worth it to have your head that far up your own ass?"

I hate trends in general, this one is no different with celebs pretending to care and sheep following. Nothing wrong with being green or whatever, but there are too many es out there.

HeHe! Like Mr. Wozniak of Apple Fame driving his Prius at 110MPH (or something like that). But, I digress. I think it is wonderful that the hybrids and electrics are getting so much airplay. I always hope my neighbors, acquaintances and total strangers will purchase them when they are looking for a new vehicle. Consider, If they can sell 40 million alternate fuel vehicles in the next decade what that will do to gas prices (OPEC is already getting very nervous). So! Let them run with it, Heck! be a booster. Talk them up etc. Somewhat on subject. What I don't like these days is the 'arms race' between the super-car manufacturers. It sends the wrong message, and because there exotics they get alot of press. There 'solution' is to add more liters, turbo charges and basically burn fuel as fast as they can. This is not high-tech IMO (in fact just the opposite) so I rarely find these cars interesting. The hybrids ARE very high-tec, and therefore interesting.

The best part of all is that in europe...they have diesel cars that get 50mpg + and they don't pollute as much either. This whole Hybrid statement is just too much....and toyota is making a killing off of it. For example in San Fran...if you don't have a Prius your a loser...It's a whole city trend lol. I mean I like clean air just as anyone but i don't think it has to be overdone.

I think the hybrid hype is a great thing. Would you rather people disregard becoming more green?

Yes, celebrities are s, but they've always been. They do things just to be seen.

My next car will probably be a hybrid if they optimize the technology a little more by then.

soooo any one here know what it takes to make a car like that.. How about what it takes to make the batteries the run the suckers. OOPS! didnt think about the polution on that side did they. batteries are not as easy to make and cleanly as every other car on the road. Oh and by the way who the hell wants to pay the price of a Hybrid? Have you seen them. Good God! Suuuuuure you get a tax cut. but no matter what your butt is still at the pumps. and if you live lets say in a stop and go big city. Your Hybrid isnt doing a bit of good.

not to spin this off but think about this. what will happen if we have no more use of black gold. (you do know that for ever 10 barels of oil only one is used on gas and the rest mostly on plastics right, look it up its good reading, or ask some one from alaska those people know way to much about oil.) If oil is droped then we will suffer BIG TIME. Taxes will go up all across the bord from the lack of its income. The US dollar will no longer be worth just that and it will be the end of the US dollar being the trade currency. As I type now the US, Canada, Mexico, and if Im right a few other southern american countries are now and have been calling meeteings and comming up with a common dollar. thats right no more US dollar. Its been a HUGE story that has been covered because that dead chick in Fl. Even the Mexican Pres. was asked about 3 weeks ago what was the deal and he leaked it out..

ANY HOW, Hybrids, sure they are cool but till Honda comes out with its full line up of hydrogen cars then for get about it. no matter how you look at it some sort of resource has to be consumed! Stuff just doesnt come out of thin air! I think this "green" thing is a fad and will end in a year or two as soon as the media can find something else to waist time on. the hybrid thing will stay. the laws change here soon and soon we are to be using less gas cars than we are now. I dont remember the year for the change over, but its coming.

Personally I'd like to see someone in power doing something to free this nation from foreign oil. Instead they appear to be supporting foreign oil, and slothenly approving domestic fuel sources.

I've invested in a company that has an excellent process for making jet fuel from natural gas and coal, and has demostrated the effectiveness of their fuel from both sources. Currently these are more of a military interest than civilian. US politicians with pockets fat from oil continue dragging their feet while this company is finding China to be a more interested partner.

While I understand the logic of the unwritten position of using everyone else's oil while retaining ours in reserve- I still don't understand why they would be so slow to support something so important to our defense that China would build a facility first.

The same goes for diesel in the US. Recent emission laws appear to be designed to discourage manufacturers from producing small diesel engines. Although some states have encouraged biodiesel, the federal govt doesn't seem interested in promoting another domestic fuel source.

So yeah, I hate hybrids because focusing on hybrids is giving us a "green fix" so that we don't pay as much attention to other viable fuel sources in the media. We should be moving forward diligently in all the directions of alternative fuel sources that can be used to replace petro based fuels in the vehicles we have now- including hybrids!!! Have we seen any diesel based hybrids? Alcohol based hybrids? Nope, the current gasoline hybrids are giving us the fix we need for now, and keeping the annoying anti-petroleum public content with their greenitude.

You also get a tax cut for driving a vehicle over 6,000lbs using it 50% or more for work.

Im sick of the hybrid talk but hey more gas for me. Also im 1000% for more clean energy (powerplants). I dont see why we continue to use up natural gasses when we can compensate with other forms for power. I laughed so hard last night when i saw a commercial for a suv hybrid. They were advertising 21 mpg city. I was like So what? That is still terrible!!! I really do think that there is a future in what they are coming up with, ive read a few things where people are actually making some big advances but Im really sick of the people with the hybrids thinking that they are SOO environmentally friendly. Just like in southpark, all these hybrids are making tons of SMUG!
