limp shifter

So i pull into seven 11 yesterday with a couple of friends and as i pull in i downshift into second and stop i go to put the car is first and notice the shifter is moving more smoothly than ever before. I think u ohhh this cant be good. So i put it in reverse to see if i can back out. Now im already on a down hill slope and so i let go of the break and start ot engage the clucth and it goes foreward like it is still in second? sending my right tire onto the sidewalk. good thing its not lowered. So something broke somewhere in the linkage before the tranny i think. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Sounds like something broke to me. As for the limp shifter, I think Scotty Bowman is doing some adds for a product that might help with that

you broke the plastic shifter base. It's a very common problem. It's not too hard to fix, just get the part from ford and you can probably do it yourself. You have to take out the center console, and its easier if you pull one of the seats. Other than that, youjust take out the old one and put in the new one like the old one came out. The way to check for sure is to pop the shift boot out and look down in there. push the back of the boot towards the front of the car to unhook the tabs, then pull the boot up. push your shifter forwards and back and see if the plastic square base is moving, it's supposed to stay still. good luck

I actually already looked into that. As soon as it happened i took off the boot and looked inside. everything moved like it was supposed to. I had the car towed to ford and they looked at it and apparently the linkage is good all the way to the tranny so it broke inside. They said it would cost about 700 yesterday cause they have to take the tranny off take it apart fix it put it back togther and put it back in. i just called them and like i thought a bolt in the tranny that holds some part of the shifting linkage on just plain broke. DAMN now instead of paying off the 1500 that i still owe on the car it get to pay for ford to fix it. WOOO HOOO.
