I just read a report about Ford in Newsweek

I was sitting in the doctor's office yesterday and I picked up a Newsweek magazine. There was an article about Ford in it. I found a few things interesting. The first being that Henry Ford's great grandson stepped down as CEO which most people know, but he still keeps his office 15 steps away from the new CEO. He has also been keeping quite a low profile because he wants everyone to know who the new CEO is.

Second, since the new CEO came in (I forgot his name, it starts with a M, and I'm too lazy to look it up), one question he had was "Why don't we have one standard make for the whole globe, like Toyota does?" The Corolla is the same no matter where you go. Maybe someone at Ford actually is going to be doing something good?

Alan Mulally is his name, and yes he did. And between him and Mark Fields, who was behind the success of what Mazda is today, Ford has some good minds at the top. Most of the garbage you see now, is left overs from the old management and cause they have to somehow make some money back. Hopefully Mulally and Fields make big changes and we see a turn around around the end of the decade.

That is definitely the guy. I remember reading it. He did save Boeing. It looks like he might be the saving grace. Ford has already mortgaged everything and took out 23 billion from the bank to cover everything, so they've basically got one shot to do this. I think will all the high brass they have, maybe Ford is heading in the right direction.

I know everybody is going to be asking this...or maybe they won't, but either way I'll ask first...

Does that mean the 5-cyl. ST hatch will come here then??? Or do you think Ford will step its European quality down...?

lmao! yes, that IS the question most people reading this will think! but realistically, it doesn't mean that either has to happen. could just be a whole new product that comes out of it. only time will tell.

That's what I was thinking and have been wondering for some time if the Focus will get replaced. I think a new vehicle would come out before they bring the European Focus here. Why? I don't know...every magazine, every Focus enthusiast, even non-Focus enthusiasts want to see the European Focus here.

I was excited when I first heard about Mulally's plan to have a "global" design scheme throughout Ford's entire line of vehicles, but I have yet to see this take into effect. Why did we get the 2008 Focus, for example? Where's the Euro Focus? The Mondeo? The Falcon?

My only guess is that the 2008 Focus was already a plan set in motion while Mulally was taking the position of CEO. So rather than completely scrapping it and wasting a ton of money on the project, they decided to go with it for now. I'm just hoping that it'll eventually be phased out in favor of the Euro one. And I know I'm not the only one wishing that.

I guess in all fairness we can talk about the Fiesta. It's being brought back into the US, right? Although I don't think it'll be nearly as impressive as when the first generation of Focus was introduced into America. But it's still a step in the right direction, and may add some credibility to this "globalized" plan that keeps being brought up.
