Test-drove 2 SVTFs today :-D

First time I've ever driven an SVTF. And I think I'm falling in love with one.

THIS one. Heated leather seats, no sunroof (since I really don't care too much about them and to me they just take away from head room for rear passengers), and a quirky, rare 5-door just like I wanted originally .

I also test drove THIS one and I feel very bad for it. Must have been very abused because the clutch SUCKED, the rear brakes were eek eek eeking the whole time I drove it, and the shift linkage just didn't feel right.

What is or was the problem with the clutch in the SVTFs?

And what the heck--why don't SVTFs have center armrest consoles!?!? Haha I guess they expect you to be "driving" all the time. That's a huge bummer for me! I use that thing in my ZTS all the time! I bet I could just swap one from a ZTS in there...

I like the indiglow dials in the SVTF...very classy. The black one I drove also had the HID headlights...and those things are pretty spiffy. You turn 'em on and BAM they're on!

One thing that was weird for me was the gearing...not used to a 6-speed at all haha. It was like I shifted and...wait, did I even shift? But hey that's cool, keeps it in in the torque band more often. And MAN 7k redline!!! How bout that! Freakin crazy. Another weird thing was getting it into reverse...I was like...do you push down on it like you do in a VW? Pull up? Oh...you just push it over really hard.

Haha the dealer I rode with was a younger dude, and I gunned it a little once...then he was like "man, these little things are quick! I've never ridden in one before...didn't realize they were this fast!" When I gunned it too I definitely noticed the traction control trying to get a handle on things but really just messing me up. Interesting...

Just wanted to share my opinions and reactions with the Focus community. Plus I'm excited about the possibility of owning the sought-after SVTF.

HID's is a plus.
Black is sexy.
Clutch sucks but have dealer replace it with TSB before you buy....hint hint.....or make it a stipulation of the purchase
TC = stupid but gone with a tune
Moonroof is sexy too

I DO like black better than red, honestly. It's just the fact that it's a 5-dr SVTF.

And like I said...a sunroof isn't the most important thing to me. It just allows the sun to burn the top of my bald head and makes visibility worse for me on bright days although I DO like the way a flipped-up sunroof looks.

sunroof = added weight and lessened structural rigidity of the car

Also, funny that you should mention that--that was one of the quirks that bothered me the MOST when I first got it, but I totally didn't even remember the arm rest deficiency until you just mentioned it. I guess this car has changed my driving preferences, lol.

This is also true, though I didn't know how much so it did this on the SVTF.

Maybe it will change mine as well haha. I didn't have one in my 2nd Civic, though I did always miss it and noticed it right away when I sat in the Focus. I'll find a solution .

i'm pretty sure that armrest would just make it uncomfortable to shift. mine didn't come with one either, but i have heard people complaining about shifting a manual with that armrest in place. it seems they were designde for automatics.
