Thumbs up Review: 2008 ford Focus Sedan

So, while I was at the dealership today helping my buddy out on looking at a new car, a truck was unloading a fresh bunch of '08 foci. I asked to take a ride, but the new ones hadn't been checked in yet, but I did get to sit in and check out a 2dr coup and fully loaded 4dr sedan. Then the salesman asked if I wanted to drive a sedan they already had for a week or two, so I did.

First impression: Car looks very different in person than it does in pictures. I like the front end quite a bit, though I think the tailights are too small esp. on the 4dr. The interior looks way more upscale and refined than that of previous models. I like the blue interior lighting.

Test ride: Car runs great, interior sound level is what you can expect from a car in its price range, if not a bit quieter. Comfy interior, supportive seats, plenty of room for my large self and my larger friend. The acceleration and braking were not impressive, but I'm used to my car, but I would hazard a guess that the new cars are a bit slower than previous years, but, the car only had about 30 miles on it, and the engine was probably still a little tight, though I did my best to loosen it up a bit on my 6 mile ride. I like the idea of the heads up display, and while very different than anything I've used before, the climate and audio controls were very easy to use, maybe not my first place to reach, but I could get used to it. Only flaw I found was the turn signal stick seamed a bit high on the column for my taste.

Overall: I like it. I can't say I'm in love with the looks, but I do not agree with many here that it is ugly or a disgrace. The Focus was in need of a major update, ford updated it alright! The one I drove was not a performer by any means, but thats not what it is made for AT ALL. For a daily driven, A to B car its perfect, small, roomy, stylish, good fit and finsh, comfortable. A good move in my book. Also, the sales manager confirmed what I had been thinking all along, the hatch was dropped because it was not selling. Americans want trunks, and they associate the idea of a hatchback with a cheap, undesirable car.

Still couldn't pay me to drive one.

Sidenote, I especially like that the design and retooling necessary to bring this "car" to market was actually more expensive than just retooling for the C1 Euro Focus...

may the designers of that car burn in hell.... this kiddies is what happens when Ford cuts a little something called the Special Vehicle Team.... Yea, it got a new skin, however I think that the SVT brought a lot of respect to the focus and gave it its head start. Now Ford has decided to make something out of it that it's not. It reminds me the Mustang II.... worst Mustang in history....

Sheesh - so Ford's been GIVING AWAY all those Focus hatches I've been seeing all over the roads all these years while I had to PAY for BOTH of mine?! Screwed again.

But seriously, I'll bet the hatches stopped "selling" only after they uglified the front end for 2005 (for, indeed, I see a lot more 2005-2007 sedans). The hatch design doesn't work with that nose at all, while the sedan looks fine.

Anyway, nice, thoughtful review. I'll never buy one in a zillion years, but no matter.
