Well, I think this is my first post...and it would have to be about motorcycles...LOL!

SV650? Yeah, very fun all purpose bike. Not as fast as the 600's out there, but insurance is really reasonable. You could do a track day with it yet and have a good time too.

What's your prior bike experience?

SV650 would be a great bike. Get the regular handlebar option, much more comfortable. The can'a'tuna? Boo, stay away. The are okay as a first bike, but I am not a fan. The Ex500 (500 ninja) is also a greta choice. Try ro stay away from fairings and plastic, as the are expensibe to drop. I really like the new "sportbikes" without plastic. The Yam. fz6, Honda 599 etc.
Have you taken a motorcycle safety course yet? If not DO. What is your bike experience so far?

I had a SV650 with a Two Brothers pipe. It was awesome. Sounded like a Ducatti when it revs. Now I miss it. Dang!

Please consider taking the MSF course. I did after 10 years of riding with my wife when she started riding. I still learned alot.

My first motorcycle (which I still own) was a 2001 CBR 650 F4i, and I absolutely loved it. Still do.

First I would take the MSF class. Then I would get a used beginner bike. The SV650 is a great bike, you can get the S if you want more of a sport bike look and even get a full fairing for about $500. The Ninja 500 and the GS500F are excellent starter bikes as well.

Just dont go and buy a new beginner bike. You will probably get bored with it after a few months and you will lose money. If you do decide to buy a new bike then just buy the bike you really want and take it slow. I started on a GSXR 600 and havent dropped it yet (been riding over 2 years now). I took the MSF class and then went to the local dealer and got it new. Oh and make sure to get some good gear. Good luck!

I wouldn't go bigger than an SV650. There's a new ninja 250 coming out or the 650r is a decent bike. Gs500 is great bike also.

Oh yeah I forgot about the new Ninja 250R. Very nice bike, updated style, great handling and fun high revving performance. Gotta love Kawi green.

^^^ I built a few of those for the 250 roadrace class. The were a blast. 16,500 RPM out of a twin!!! 14,000 on the street. Amazingly fast for a 250.
