SVT v.s. Duratec 2.3

I've been thinking of upgrading my car to either an SVT or a Duratec 2.3 equipped ZX3. Right now I drive a 2k1 ZX3 with the 2.0 Zetec with almost 85k miles. Which is the better engine in terms of response to mods or would be best to handle F/I?

the 2.3 responds to FI better than the SVT. but outta the box, the SVT is quicker.

Cheap is a relative term. An old saying relating to modifying, Fast, Reliable, Cheap, pick two.

That being said, yes the 2.3 responds better to mods, but the rods in the duratec are powdered and the SVT rods are forged. Given that, you can make more power with the SVT without upgrading the internals. It's kinda give and take. The SVT has better internals for FI and there are more options for FI, but the Duratec responds much better to FI and the rods are kinda junk.

the d-tec responds worse to FI....i beleive you cant boost past 12psi...however 03orangeSVT was up around 22 or 26 before his SVT motor blew...you cant make 360 on stock internals on a d-tec.

i was in your same boat actually. i went with a svt motor. i can honestly say its amazing. power is always there. i have no mods as of yet to the motor, besides UDPs. but the car just pulls hard. soooo hard.

i went from a cammed with full bolt ons motor to a stock SVT and the SVT is quicker. i cant wait for FI.

the swap isnt that hard if you have every single part. and i mean everything. evap system, fuel pump, motor, wiring harnesses, ECU...it all.

but i say go for SVT.

I was running 19psi when it went...... BUT it had seen over 23psi on a few occasions..... and that was 19psi on a HIGH flowing turbo... same psi but a crapload more air.

I feel that if you wanted 300whp I would go SVT and get a good tune.... the SVT should handle it without much effort. Toms Black SVT has been at 326whp 330wtq for years... and its ALL stock except the exhaust.

FYI ... its also for sale as we speak!!!!

svt's actually dont really respond that well to bolt on mods. they r already pretty tweaked, unless u go FI,
the 2.3 is a good motor, but if u drive the two of them especially the svt 1st, u will think the 2.3 feels sloppy, just not as responsive. u can really feel the raw power of the svt when under a load (joke insert here, lol)

The ancient debate lives on! I'm sure if you do a search you can find dozens of 2.3 vs SVT topics. We have discuss this topic many times before and in reality you wont find a true answer. This thread will be 5 pages by Monday I guarantee.
