Forgive me for being ignorant....

...but what is the deal with ST and RS versions of the Focus... how come they aren't manufactured for sale in the U.S.? Does Ford actually make ST and RS or are they conversion kits? I feel as though Ford, being an American company, is being "unfair" to it's own citizens. I'm also curious about the Euro style, why not just one universal style? These questions have been grating my mind for some time now.

Don't loose any sleep over it, that's the way it is, has been and probably may always be.
A result of different demographics, regulations, etc.

Ford does make the ST and RS, the ST is the European version of our SVT. the RS is just amazing. . .

it all has to do with what Ford views as target market, they don't see the RS as a viable sport compact alternative, they developed it for Rally minded europeans, they don't think there is enough of a market to sell it on the other side of the pond which has been mostly preoccupied with big horsepower high displacement engines for the most part of the automotive life span.

The ST is equivalent to our SVT; the RS didn't make it here because Ford didn't think there was a market for such a car (yep, heads up their ass), although the SRT-4, WRX, Evo, etc proved that dumb idea wrong (also due to its limited production). Yes, it is an American company, but the Focus came out two years in Europe before we got it; it was for Euro Ford, and we got it later because the Escort was getting really old. You have to realize that the American market and Euro/Japan market are definetly different, due to environment, culture, and history. Europe and Asia are concerned with size, mileage, and driveablility because of where they live; the thing is, where and what they are lends itself to better cars, dynamically. We are a big country, don't worry about mileage b/c of gas prices, and have a lot of space, and big roads. Highways are straight (but in worse shape), neighborhoods are big, and we travel a lot more on average then a European or Asian person. Those combine into cars that are more comfortable on long drives, but it also lends itself to being able to have bigger cars with crappier mileage (ie, more power --> muscle cars) that are more comfortable, all of which combine to produce cars that go straight fast, but don't turn or brake as well. Times are changing, because automakers are figuring out Americans like to drive and get cars similar to Euro or Asian cars; the Yankee Barge has gone the way of the Dodo (except SUVs), and you'll see a big change within 10 years, I think. There are many signs that point to this. Finally, as for style, its a matter of general cultural taste. American vs. Euro/Asian tastes are different, all the way to even color choice. On the upside, we get some of the good cars, some better cars, and have better fuel and insurance prices. I think that, overall, we are much better off, car-wise, then the rest of the world. Japan gets a lot of cool cars (and versions of them), and Europe has many too, but a lot of US cars are going to the Nurburgring and Europe for testing (making them better), and more desirable cars are coming across the ponds. Globalization isn't a totally bad thing

huh.... well, the fact that their culture reflects different styling makes total sense but it deffinitely costs Ford Motor Company more dollars to support the manufacture of 7 different styles(ST, RS, SVT, ZX3, ZX5, Sedan, Euro style, I have no idea what else) versus 4. The strategy to make Euro Focus unique to American Focus doesn't show me how Ford can make more money. On a second note, driving fast when the road isn't straight is much more exhilirating than driving fast on a straightaway! Rally racing makes more sense than this NASCAR crockery.

A question I have often pondered. Ford is an American company. Bring the good cars here. l88m22vette brought of the SRT-4, WRX and Evo. People want these cars. When will Ford learn?
