Hope you got to the Dragon already

I'm not sure if this story is true or not, but I don't think it's too far off. There has been a lot of talk about the Dragon in the media and I think the speed bumps are inevitable.

http://www.topix.net/forum/source/wb...AF8JB2T9BHHO8N

They say it's going to happen before Labor day.

I don't live in tennesee, but putting speed bumps might make things worse.
But then again I don't really care.

Speed bumps suck!! My newly built highschool's driveway is exactly a 1/4 mile. So there are about 7 speed bumps that everyone has to drive over every day. It's so bad that when we had a fire drill the fire department complained about them taking to long to get over.

Okay, maybe I posted this prematurely. I just found this:

Let put all the speculation to rest. There are not going to be any speed reduction devices physically installed on The Dragon. It is one of many avenues we explored in an effort to control high velocity vehicles on that road. We studied various types of road alterations including 3 or 4 different types of "speed bumps" but the cost of purchase and installation did not warrent this route. That, plus the fact that they could become an additional hazard to drivers in inclement weather. Basically, the ends did not justify the means.

That being said, we have decided to install traffic cameras like those mounted at dangerous intersections which take videos and pictures of a vehicle's license plate who has failed to stop at a red light. Numerous cameras will be installed on The Dragon and equipped with a similar type of radar system currently used by Police Officers and Highway Patrol to determine a vehicle's speed.

Should a vehicle be deemed to be over the speed limit on The Dragon, their license plate will be recorded by the camera and a speed infraction violation (ticket) will be issued and mailed to the registered owner of said vehicle.

We have determined this to be the most cost effective way to control infractions while at the same time providing proof of said infraction. It also does not require any additional manpower which is a benefit to taxpayers.

I hope this answers your questions and we at TDOT request everyone to drive safely and buckle up.

Looks like there will be a lot of that spraypaint you talk about for your license plates being passed around.

when i used to make the trip to the dragon it was on my f4i not my focus and we used to bend out plates up anyways..or the rear tire would hit them from coming down hard doing a one wheel deal and bend them. its easy to conceal your plate on a bike and get away with it..now a car i think this may end up causing a lot of issues for those that remove their plates for the ride or use tape to cover up the plates or what not. I could see for a while a cop sitting at the bottom waiting for those who dont have a exposed plate.

Last weekend (or maybe the weekend prior), they had 14+ officers on the Dragon, actively stopping people, and occasionally issuing tickets.

As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't bother me. There is far too much traffic on that section due to popularity, and throw in some below speed limit travelers, and it now just turned into a commute. Plus, I wouldn't enjoy wondering if at each curve if someone coming the other way will be part way into my lane.

I'll stick to track driving.

there goes a fun day at the dragon when no one is around...

glad I got there before this......

shoot, it's hard to do 35mph on most of those turns in a car. I'll just find another road i guess......
