Help me find focus - I'm shopping for one...

Looking at the purchase of a new '07 focus...

I've been reading alot of the threads - all very helpful and fun - you're a great group... (i belong to similar forums for my diesel ram and my jeep, too)

I'm looking at a black or silver sedan with the sport appearance package...
Both are automatics - will I hate this? Does it really effect performance?
I'm making this purchase to save on gas mileage - looked at the reviews/polls and ok with that - but it factors into the above...

What else - why should I buy a focus - do's & dont's etc. - thanks...

mmm...I say no MTX, buy ST, that's what I have, and with my mods I still get about 280 miles per tank, city driving on 91oct. Since you are on this forum...you will probably end up wanting to modify it, then the bug will continue to bite, and pretty soon you'll end up garaging the focus and looking for another daily driver (that's if you're anything like me!).

The Focus has incredible handling, which can be improved...you know those on-ramp warning signs that say "20MPH"? I can get up to about 45, no problem.

If I could change one thing about my Focus, It would be the lack of room in the engine bay. But, then again it is a compact, but I could use a bit more space, especially after all these scars on my forearms and hands!

As for you hating an automatic, it's all a matter of personal preference. I hate automatics period. But, is your driving style spirited, or are you more conservative. If conservative, I would say you should go with the ATX.

When driving an Auto, you lose 30% of your horsepower through the drivetrain, and since you don't have total control over gearing, you lose miles per gallon versus a Manual.

My advice, get a Focus ST. 2.3 L engine (all other models are 2.0L) and it's a manual, and a lot of options. Just my advice.

You should definitly go for the ST. Go to the Dealer where the other two are and see if they can do a Dealer Trade for an ST with the SAP. Just Because your local Dealer doesn't have one doesn't mean they can't get one.

I bought the bare bones S model with a 2.0 and 5 speed. I average 30 mpg and its a quick little thing.

Unless youre in traffic a lot Id go with a manual. More power to the wheels, better control and a hell of a lot more fun! My new '07 got 30 mpg on its first tank and it looks like this one will be more.

Theyre great little cars, Ive been very happy with both of mine so far and for the price you really cant go wrong.
