Shift light?

So I just got a 07' Focus hatchback. I love it! Pitch Black, with a 5spd Manual, but my question is.. I have no tac, and the light seems to disagree with when I want to shift, and when it wants me to shift. My question is, does it matter? and if it does.. what speeds should I be shifting at... Should I be shifting into second gear at 15mph or 25mph? I have had a stick shift in all of my cars, but with no tac, I have no idea of what the rpm's are doing. Just wondering when I should be shifting.

Any help would be awesome.. till then... I'll be out driving =)

The shift light is for fuel effeciency. Its based on engine load and throttle position. So if you are lightly driving around town, it recommends that you shift early. If you are pushing the pedal down more, it will recommend you shift later.
