engine bay question... (big pic)

Ok whats in the pink box? My dad and i were talking and we think they are 2 different things... he has more experience with engines and stuff.

I thought they were headers, but he said that they are part of the intake manifold...

Intake manifold, the header/ exhaust manifold is on the other side. Id be afraid if a car had a plastic header! lol

pink box didnt come out too well.. haha

ok... then the headers are in the back part of the engine bay? I havent really looked around in there but im learning.

do they connect directly to the flex pipe?

and how come some people get a different intake manifold (different piping) is it mainly done when there are alot of mods done to the engine?

My guess is that different piping material/design will give better airflow into the block

Header>flex>exhaust

A new intake manifold will give you better flow at high RPM's, but you need to have pretty much everything else done to actually need one. (Full bolt-ons, cams, head work and/or raised compression).

Those "nice pipes" you're seeing might actually be the headers of 2000-2004 model foci. Ford switched the engine around on their 2005+ models, changing from the previous layout that had the intake manifold in the back and the headers in the front.
