Whoops.

So I finish lunch in my car, open the door, hit the lock button, stand up and put my drink on the roof, and watch the door swing shut.

With the key still inside. In the ignition. With the radio still on.

Is there a greater feeling of helpless stupidity than the moment you realize you just locked your keys in the car?

Maybe I should have some sort of back up plan to fix this in the future.

a brick always works.... or a spare key would be a good idea.... and yes there is a more hopeless feeling than that.... locking your keys in the car with your engine running..... lol

Oooh, good point. Heh.

And I think I'm going to put a spare in my wallet. My wife has a spare now, but she's an hour and a half away at my mother in law's house.

Talk about timing. :P

Hehehe. Oh man, there's not much more you can do but laugh. I've had spare keys for most of my vehicles in those little magnetic boxes somewhere on them. The best part is when you go to do that for a vehicle that you've already locked yourself out of only to find that it already has a key box on it.

My 300ZX had some sort of weird passive alarm system that would try to lock the doors so many seconds after closing them. You could get in the car and close the door and wait. After about 10-15 seconds you could hear a shift in the doors that would sometimes lock the doors and sometimes not. Of course they always locked when ever you didnt want them to, usually after I stepped out of the car at the gas pump, only to realize after filling her up that I couldn't get back in.

ok, this is what you do

use a coat hanger to pop the trunk, climb through... simple

as for the radio, if you have the stock one, you can just press the volume button in and it will stay on for an hour! you don't need the keys at all. so if you turned it on that way (but with the keys in the ignition) it will shut off

other than that it'd probably last a good 5 or 6 hours on the battery
