Driving with lots of lugage for 1,200miles???

So, me and my GF are moving to WV from FL about 1,2000miles and 14hours i hear. Well, we decided that it would be cheaper to not pay $1000 on a uhaul and just take what we need/want in our cars. Well she brought up a good point what about the weight? I took out about 80lbs outta the back of my legend and in 2-3 months (give or take) I noticed my tires wareing weird. So will driving with full cars mess up our tires? (she JUST bought new rims and tires, and i dont want them to get messed up)

And what all can I do to get the best MPG? I have a K&N filter, Ive used intake cleaning on the manifold, and going to do my spark plugs and wires tomorrow. Tire presure will be checked b4 leave and all the way up. Anything else?

I had my Focus loaded to the gills when we drove to Cali, and then my GF's car on the drive back, and after 2800 miles, the tires were fine. Just don't do it all the time.

It'll be fine, in retro-spec, 1200 isn't anything, unless you're riding on rims.

I've done it. However, I was moving from Tampa, FL to Pittsburgh, PA. Packed the car with everything I owned, drove up to NYC (to see family), then Philly (to see more family), and then off to Pittsburgh. Not so much as a hiccup during the trip. It was that move that really endeared me to the focus hatchbacks.

As for routing, you should be fine. Once you're on the interstate, you should see at minimum 30mpg. I did. Though, that was with I-75 to I-10 to I-295 to I-95 to I-26 to I-77 to U.S. 19 to I-79. (didn't know about the 301 shortcut through Lawtey and Starke at the time)

The move won't damage your car, but you will get worse gas mileage and there is nothing you can do about it. More weight in the car = more load on the engine = more fuel will be burnt.

I've driven back and forth from Mississippi to Delaware a few times.. with a LOT of crap in the car. I just get a tire rotation before and/or after as needed.
