Cold Air Intake increase MPG

I was told by my mechanic that a cold air intake (a good one from someone like K&N) would increase my mileage. Anyone agree with this? Also what do you recommend? K&N, Iceman, BOMZ or which is the best one? I have a 2003 with the 2.0L SPI engine. thanks in advance.

an intake might increase your MPG, but the gain would be marginal. You should consider how much gas you would have to save to offset the cost of the CAI. You might be better off if you just use a K&N, or similar, panel filter with your stock airbox.

of course it will, bolt ons can also be refered to as "effeciency" mods, as opposed to power adders. it gets better mileage for the same reason it makes more power, makes the engines job easier by making the intake less restrictive, taking less feul to make more power.

Get the volant intake, and since you have an spi, buy a reducer to fit the intake tube onto the throttle body.

I really didn't notice much difference, either with mileage or HP when I put the CAI on my 00 zx3. It did sound cooler though.

that question has always been up for debate...i personally think that they will help your mpg a bit....as for an intake...well,all the intakes offered for our cars are pretty good....although i wil say k&n typhoon is my preference.

Buy a stock SVT snorkel and box... about $50 used off ebay or on the forum sometimes. Better gains than a volant. Much cheaper.
