EVO, sorry, but its got nearly 30-40whp more than a turboed ST (assuming 11psi/intercooled). Plus its got AWD, so it'll run away from you unless you race it from a roll. And one last thing, pray to god he doesn't have any mods or you're toast.

It could be possible, but you would have to push the boost up to the point that the stock internals would be stretching it a bit.

I guess the real question is whp or crank. If the EVO is rated at the crank (roughly 280ish) I would think the ST may have a chance, because in actuality it would be putting even less to the wheels. Granted it's got all wheel drive, but that's an extra 2 wheels to turn. I've seen dynos for ST's with 11 psi from 245 - 260 at the wheels.

But if he's modded, and most are, the focus will get it's butt handed to it on a silver platter.

There's a stock EVO that runs at the local strip, hopefully he'll be there this summer and I'll try and run him to see what happens.

I disagree. At one time there was a video on here of a guy racing an EVO in a turbo Duratec 2.0 with 12psi intercooled stock exhaust. He pulled ahead, and stayed clearly ahead until 5th gear. That's long past a 1/4 mile on a dragstrip. A D23 with as much boost, some other mods, LSD, etc would be a good contender for an EVO at a dragstrip. You're right about mods though, the EVO can be made to waste the Duratec. On the other hand- anything can be built to outdo the other. Tom at Focus-Power has SVT's that will outrun EVO's with or without mods.

AWD is for wimps who don't know how to drive. During the late 80's this was evident because you had two exact same cars available with or without AWD: the Eclipse/Talons. The FWD Eclipse edged ahead of the AWD in every magazine test by 1/2 a second at the 1/4 mile.

What could be causing this preposterous nonsense? Surely this is completely crazy since AWD is the techies dream!!! NO, it's simple physics. You have a limited amount of power, in one case this power drives two wheels, in the other case this power drives 4 wheels. Sure, this helps non-drivers in AWD cars who want to be real drivers accelerate at the maximum capabilities of their cars by flooring the gas pedal and popping the clutch without worry of extreme spin- which is exactly what the magazine guys did in their Talon tests, however, it didn't help. The reduction of energy still held them back more than the lack of wheelspin helped.

Handling? Another myth perpetrated by non-drivers. A good driver in a FWD or RWD vehicle similar to the AWD will outhandle the AWD every single time. Why? Less weight, and the ability to swing the car into slides that AWD does it's best to prevent. Of course, when you do slide an AWD- all 4 tires slide. This can really screw you up. Ask the AUTOX guys on here if you don't believe me- AWD is for wimps.

Exactly like that guy. He looks like the thong is riding up his crack. I think my fiancee could take him.
