Replacing the ignition lock cylinder - will the airbags deploy?

A car mechanic advised me against doing the job myself because he said there's potential for the airbags to deploy. They want $130 to do it and said it's a 2 hour job.. I'd rather do it myself but if there's high risk of popping an airbag I think I'll just shell out the money.

If your lock still turns and you don't have to drill it's a 20 minute job MAX. And I think the only way to get your airbag to deploy while you're doing it is to crash your tool box into your front bumper...
Just make sure you have a star drive set, you'll need it to remove the lower column housing. There's directions on a thread here somewhere, it really is a piece of cake - unless you have to drill.

BTW, I MAY have disconnected the battery. Not a bad idea, but I can't remember if I did or not.

if you are doing any work in or around the area of the airbag the battery should be disconnected as it needs an electrical charge to detonate
