Looking to buy

I currently drive a 2002 WRX and I am looking to buy a Focus. I have plans of turning it into a Spec Focus track car.

I have a couple of cars in mind. Remember, I want a good platform to start with, but in Spec racing, there is only so much you can do. So the two cars I have found so far would be a 2003 ZX3 and a 2002 SVT. I know the HP on the SVT is +40 compared to the ZX3 and the SVT comes with rear disc brakes. What are some of the other differences to concider before buying?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Well is the 2003 a 2.3L? Cuz it has more torque then the SVT by a lil. But if you were looking to get a track car go with the SVT the suspension setup is the best out there!!! Everything about the SVT is awesome. The 2.3 does not have a S/C out yet either. So in my opinion even though i drive a 2.3 i say SVT all the way. Hopefully that helps a little bit

I don't know if a 2.0 ZX3 would have enough power for me to enjoy. Going from a car with 227hp to a car with 130hp. What are the differences between the 2.3L ZX3 and the 2.0 SVT?

The 6-speed gearing and some of the chassis mods on the SVTF would likely give you some advantage. There's a much more direct feel to the SVTF, although of course Spec Focus would allow you to sharpen up the ZX3 as well. Yes, you'll be down in BHP, but also remember you'll be dropping hundreds of pounds as well, and I can tell you unequivicably that the SVTF is more responsive and communicative than the WRX, even most tuned ones.

I would look up some people on NASA boards and talk to the Spec Focus people themselves and see what they think. Regardless of how they perform new, you are going to want to know how they compare in Spec form, which could be an entirely different story.

Then, if you still want a good, solid SVTF for not much $$$, PM me as I am selling.

I think I am going to get an SVT. As cheap as they are used, it would be the best for me. Were these available w/o a sunroof? I would prefer one without because it would save me some work down the road.

id say go with the 03 zxe not the SVT......the 6 speed gearing is not good for autox or track racing.....the 5 speed has alot better gear ratios for corning and handling turns.........theres also a bigger aftermarket for the regular zetec engines........and also the 2002 SVT is probally gonna have more probs than that newer zx3
