Can I safely tow a 550lb ATV and trailer?

So I need to take my four wheeler about 15 miles to go riding saturday and was wondering if the focus can handle it. I have a hitch already on it from when I bought the car, but all the previous owner towed was a light trailer and motorcycle. I have a light trailer and a 550lb Honda Bruin four wheeler. Total weight should be less than 1000lbs, right? I can post pics later for more confirmation, but let me know what you think.

I have my s10 and ranger to pull it with, but my wife's Honda Rancher is going in the back of on of those and I really shouldn't pull all that weight and tow at the same time....and mine doens't fit in the back of a small truck.

EDIT!!!!!!!!

So yeah. It pulls it without a problem.

Never know til you try right? I'm no expert but I wouldn't expect it to be a problem. Are both your cars manual? If the ZX3 is auto i'd expect the transmission to be the weak link, if anything. If the hitch is on the ST I would feel comfortable pulling that weight.

The hitch is on my zx3 and it is manual. I don't think it'll be a problem, I just needed some other opinions and was hoping that someone on here did something similar to my case. I'm going to pull it tomorrow and let you all know what happens and my feelings on it.

I might just throw one atv in the bed of my truck and trailer the other at the same time....that way, the 350 will get about 5 or 6 mpg.

True I guess, but the tongue weight and total wieght is what you really gotta worry about. I don't think the tongue weight of that particular load would really be that much, less than two heavy dudes I'd think. Refer to your owners manual is my advice. Also, manual or auto tranny?

easy on the brakes, that extra weight will eat your pads up. I think you'll be fine for sure, just saying, easy on the ole brakes.

your best would be to read the manual and see what it can actually pull. you probably knew that, but just thought i'd give you an idea.
