Unhappy Water in the Battery?

So today at work, my co-workers and I were discussing the phoenix heat killing cars, and their parts. We brought up car batteries, and I told them that the car battery holds water. At least the one in my 2000 cougar did. There was a cap that was removable, where cylinders that held water would reside. They began to laugh, mock, and make fun of me. Someone please back me up. I know what I'm talking about..........I think. lol. By the way it was a v6 2000 merc coug.

Car batteries have held water in their cells from the time they were invented probably 9 decades ago or so. And yes, sulfuric acid. I think racing batteries have something like a gel but that's not your common passenger car battery.

I'm not sure if you're jerking our chain or your co-workers are jerking yours, but, yes, there is good old H2O in the cells of your car battery. The electolyte is generally a concentration of H2O and sulphuric acid. Batteries can be the old technology ones that require regular checking and servicing with water (preferably distilled), semi-maintenance free ones that require infrequent checks and service, and the sealed fully maintenance free types found on most new cars. If the battery has any kind of removeable caps or covers, then the battery requires periodic checking/servicing. READ your owner's manual re the original battery.

Hell yeah! I love all you focus fanatics. I knew I wasn't crazy. Just 'cause I am young, they think I don't know anything. I do know cars. Especially my own. My coug' had a removable cap which like you said was for periodic maintenance. And no, no chain jerking over here, they are just dumb and don't know cars. Anyways thats settled. Thank you all for the support.
