Angry My 2001 Focus SE needs a new transmission

It's been slipping on and off for about 2 weeks now & I went to a place and had it looked at and they took the pan out from the bottom and almost died because there was so much metal in the bottom of it ... they said they would have to rebuild it ...
Do I get a second opinion or just have them rebuild it?

My friend has a 2003 focus and she had to get an all new transmission too ... is this a common problem with ford? Also at the transmission place there was another focus there with the same problem as me ... I'm thinking my next car will have a bow tie on the front

Well, I didn't have the best of luck with the manual on the 02 that I had. I ended up having four rebuilds due to bad syncros and jamming. Needless to say, how the car is driven makes a world of difference. Unfortunately, you have to drive an automatic even easier than you would a manual (unless it's an Aisin Warner unit in a RWD drive car - Volvo or Toyota), as they are better for cruising than acceleration.

Sadly, since the focus is a fun car to drive, most focus owners tend to drive in a more spirited fashion than say, someone in an automatic transmissioned 4 cylinder Chevy Malibu.

Another thing to note - all modern cars have problems. Doesn't matter if it's a Ford, GM, Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, etc. The modern tech, as great as it is has limitations - long term longevity being one of them.

After nothing but problems with my 02 zx3, I decided to roll the dice again and buy another focus - this time brand new with 14 miles on it instead of certified pre owned with 23k.

This is 100% the reason why I choose to drive a manual over an auto. Some say manuals are more fun to drive, some say they enjoy the better acceleration, some say they like the better gas mileage.

F that. The reason why manuals are better is because they seldom break nearly as much as an automatic and when they do, the clutch is three times cheaper to replace!

I think the record on here will show that the MTX-75 is a far more reliable transmission than the 4F27E. You don't hear from people who have been through two or three MTX-75s in less than 30,000 miles...unfortunately, you can't say the same for the 4F27E.
