I finally did it. I finally drove an RSX-S

Alright so it is not that big of a deal, but it was fun. I don't know what people complain about when they say that the RSX-S has shitty torque. It felt quicker from 1000 RPMs all the way to 8500 than my SVT does at any point of acceleration (in stock form).

With the kill switch, my current mods and the Predator Tune, the S is still quicker...but not by nearly as much.

So the motor is incredible...and I would definitely love to have a car with that motor, but I can not say so much for the car itself. I was not at all unfamiliar with the RSX because my sister drives a white base model with an automatic. But it was my first time in an S.

The car had 40,000 miles on the clock and it was an '03. It was pearly white but it didn't have a touch of appearance package or anything on it..no spoiler or wheel upgrades. The interior felt cheap and bland compared to my focus. It did not feel as strong or well put together as my focus either. When the windows roll down, certain panels move a lil bit and such. This kind of stuff doesn't occur in my SVT ever! The shifter was flimsy and weak feeling. And while driving it I noticed that it grinded into first if I didn't jam it all the way forward so the guy who owned the car before probably drove the hell out of it and messed up the synchros.

The exterior felt solid and the trunk was heavy...the hood was a little light but the motor looked beautiful.

So driving? Well I took it all the way to 8000 RPMs which did not make the dealer happy but I only looked at it as an opportunity to test drive it and he was new..sucker!! lol. So I got on the freeway and I could definitely tell that by the time I was merging, this RSX would be a good ways ahead of my SVT...at least a couple car lengths. I would love to see what 1000 dollars in performance mods would do to this car.

As for driveability, I did not have enough of a chance to really test the car in every day conditions, but from what I felt, the SVT was much much more balanced, more solid on the turns and a helluva lot easier to drive in daily situations.

So after some talking I said adios and I was satisfied with my test drive.

So what's the verdict?

Interior: SVT
Exterior: SVT
Acceleration: RSX-S
Handling: SVT
Driveability: SVT
Shifting: SVT
Options: SVT
Bang for your buck???????? SVT by a muthafuggin landslide!

Rock on!

well i'm glad you at least had some fun drivin the car. but i think this just solidifies the opinion that ford can build some great cars for the right price. they might not build us the fastest or coolest looking cars, but they still surprise everyone who gets behind the wheel of one. especially the focus!

the guys at sport compact say its the one with the most potential. get one that wasnt owned by an angry teenager and put on some coilovers, and you've got a sick car. funny thing is iv been in a rsxs but not an svtf... go figure.

I have a good friend with one. He's faster in a straight line, but I pull him in the twisties. He will be first to admit that the EAP interior is far better then his. His car is well built and with some mods could keep up or even out handle me in the curves.

I think you're just a TINY bit bias..

Interior: SVT
Exterior: SVT
Acceleration: RSX-S
Handling: SVT
Driveability: SVT
Shifting: SVT
Options: SVT

Interior, I can't comment on because I've never been in an 03 RSX. BUT, focus's DO have incredibly bad interiors. In fact, the only saving thing in the svt are the seats. This is coming from a guy who drives a honda and a ford every day (well up until my foci was stolen). The RSX-S has always had nice interiors.

Exterior.. I don't know about that one. The exterior on the focus has always been a negative for me. It reminds me too much of a fit. The RSX looks great.

Handling, of course the svt wins. THAT is it's selling point. However, set of coilovers would set the rsx above the svt.

Shifting, again no, sorry! Hondas have the most silky smooth trannies I've ever experienced. The SVT isn't bad, but it is in no means better than a hondas.

The RSX interior is very clean and well engineered (small gaps between panels and whatnot), but the styling is too sterile for me. It has very little personality, and I really don't like that everything lights up red at night, kind of creepy. The seats are fairly comfortable, but I haven't sat in them for more than an hour or so. And the back seat is absolutely horrible, unless you're a midget. The RSX-S that I drove shifted like butter, but it was damn near brand new. The hatch lid ("liftback", whatever) definitely felt heavy, even when brand new. And the space under the wasn't all that useful, the SVT definitely wins for cargo space and passenger room. The RSX handled well, it just didn't give you anywhere near as much feedback as the SVT does, and the steering was a little too light for my taste. It definitely wasn't a bad car, I just can't justify the price tag. Especially after owning the SVT.

I agree with the interior looking cheap. A guy I used to work with bought an '06 RSX-S. He led me out into the parking lot, and though it was a beautiful car on the outside, I was dissapointed by the plasticy interior.

Please keep in mind I am not speaking of the RSX vs. the Ford Focus...I'm speaking of an '03 RSX-S with tan interior vs. an '04 Focus SVT with BLACK eap interior..IE, leather...all the goodies.

A STOCK RSX vs. a stock Focus would definitely be far superior in quality and structureability..but the SVT esp. with the euro appearance package delivers much more IMO...IMO.

Now, as far as transmission is concerned, the 6 speed getrag in my car with new fluids, a brand new clutch and clutch system, the counterweight removed and a short throw shifter installed felt better than that of THIS rsx-S. Now I'm not stranger to Japanese 6 speed tranny's...I've driven my boy's CL-S with a 6 speed manual, and I have driven a couple of S2000's and now this RSX-S. I haven't driven a new SI but I have felt the shifter and it feels great. SILKY smooth and beautiful.

In this particular case, the RSX-S lost becuase the dude played baseball with the shifter everytime he shifted. It was smooth but it lacked any life. It was like turning the handlebars on a Sea-Doo for those who have u know what i'm talkin about.

So, from me, this is a comparison between my car, being the best focus Ford ever made, and a slightly beat to hell RSX-S.

Now as far as the interior goes, my sisters car is in 10X better condition than that type S I test drove, but I still think my interior is nicer and definitely as well put together as hers.

I might think otherwise if the interior of the RSX-S was black instead of tan though...not a big fan of Tan interiors!
