interesting fact about V6 mustangs

the last of the edge style I guess 04's most of them came with a 3.9l V6 instead of the 3.8l. the reason being is that ford increased displacement in the V6 in the mini vans from 3.8 to 3.9. That being done and also that its the same motor in the mustang instead of having to machine two different bore sizes ford just put it in the mustang also though without letting noone know. Ford says it does not increase HP its just a like being bored out .020 over. Cool little interesting fact for those who care. There's no replacement for displacement. I beat it must at least increase TQ a smidge. But being that that mustang was on its way out I'm sure thats why ford did'nt advertise it. Also there being no competition to compete against also was no reason to mention the increase. Just a cool fact I thought I'd like to share.

I thought so. If I was building up or rebuilding a V6 mustang I would definitly look for a junkyard motor from an 04' though I don't know how you would be able to tell them apart. A little less than 1/3 still came with the 3.8 it was a running model change. But most over 2/3rds of them had the 3.9. I guess you would have to check the vin or block casting but then I would know where to get those.

3.8l Ford motor is/was the worst POS ever built. They popped head gaskets like they were balloons.Don't tell me different because I changed HUNDREDS of them. The heads cracked often as well.

0.1L isn't going to change much, and at the end of the day, you're still driving a V6 Mustang.

^^^ Just an interesting fact. I did'nt say anything about is being bad@$$. Has for popping head gaskets. No comment .....I SAID NO COMMENT! I guess thats why ford has had in production so long was because they sucked but opinions are like @$$holes everybody has em'. I think you might have changed one too many headgasket and it made you blow a gasket. But yeah I heard they do go through em'. But just because thats all you see then yeah its easy to base your opinion on that. The ones I have seen have been running strong.

Great so you changed hundreds but there is no recall.

2000 v6 mustangs have 3 recalls

Hood striker Pin, Parking brake control, Saftey belt retractor.

Not saying they did not fail but after a point it was no longer a problem. Apart from that the 3.8 is a fine motor and wont give you much trouble. I would not hesitate to let a 3.8 take me cross country and hell I already have. I wuld also not hesitate to run forced induction on one. make a 4.2 storker throw a vortech on it and call it a 350hp day.

I agree sounds like he was just a sour . He must hate his job or something I would'nt have gotten mad but darn it he told me to shut my piehole. Yeah its popular to swap the blocks out with the 4.2 there same demisions. You said it. You could get even more with a turbo I've seen em' in mags before but its rare they typicaly don't do alot of articles on the V6 stangs and what not. If he wanted to be mean you could say the same thing about the focus it has its flaws but they were all worked out by the 3rd model year. He makes sound like everyone is going puke its guts out. My family has owned 2 mustangs with 3.8s no problems and I have know other who put over 200k on them too. Man he ticked me off just check out his profile. That says it all.

I hate to agree with him, but the 3.8L engine was known for blowing head gaskets. Maybe it was more of a problem in the Taurus/Sable, and Ford finally fixed it later on. But in the Taurus and Sable you could count on them blowing at about 100,000 miles like clockwork.
