K&N Filter.

I put one on my CAI to replace the crappy one it came with...that being said. My friend said the K&N is water proff and it has to be completly sumerged in water for hydrolock to occur. Is this true?

that's the rule for most filters, they must be submerged to hydro lock a motor. but that's not water proof. they can still suck up moisture but it won't KO your motor. I've had my CAI with K&N for a few years now and no problems even when hitting a big puddle.

I have the Marcy CAI on the 2.3L Dura. Not sure what yours is like. But so far no problems ever with the CAI no hitting the ground, bumps, ect. Even with my old cup kit it never had a single problem. I clean my filter regularly too...but with the lip on my bumper...that is another story, lol. i hit that lip all the time.

The CAI is a great intake but you have to take in consideration the environment you are exposed to in your area.

There is a lot of rain in my area and even though large puddles are not the norm, I ran across some puddles that had me worried when I had a CAI.

Then I switched over to a SRI and glad I did because about 2 months ago, we had some unusual amount of rain and had large puddles of a foot or deeper. You had a choice to go through them or abandon your car and walk through/around it.
Let just say I went through some puddles that were deep enough to touch the front bumper and if I had a CAI, I'm sure I would had to pull over or risk hydrolock.

For an extra +2-5hp over an SRI, it's not worth it to me to risk blowing my engine.

Also note that it doesn't take much water to blow an engine.

".....volumes exceeding 40cc (1.4 fluid ounces, <3 tablespoons) will cause many engines to develop cylinder pressures well in excess of 1000psi."
