St170

Howeya Lads,
I've seen a ford focus ST170 for sale with 72000 miles on the clock and I was wondering what dyes think? is 72000 miles too much for an ST170? The car is in great nick otherwise. The price is for €14995 - 19,690.08USD but Im sure I can get it out of him for 13500-14000. what dyes think? too much money?

Cheers

What did they go for brand new there? What year is it? What options does it have?

Well for a 5 yo car that's not terribly high miles. If they were "easy" miles as opposed to stop & go or racing type usage then I wouldn't turn down the car just for that reason. If it still looks nice & new and you can get a mechanic (or yourself if you're mech inclined) to look it over and make sure it's ticking well under the bonnet too, then I'd say it could be worth it. Certainly different than your 00 Zetec I would imagine!

I absolutely agree. My zetec is only a 1.4 litre. I thought it was a grand fast car (cos I went from a 1 litre starlet to the 1.4).....but then I got my full license and got a company car which was 1.6 litre Focus Turbo diesel....which made me come to my senses and realize that my car couldn't pull the socks off my feet.

I rang 2 insurance companies and my current insurer doesnt insure ST170s...I hate this country...Robbing bastards!!

Wow that stinks!! I can't think of any insurance cos (off the top of my head) that Won't cover an SVT over here. They're not exactly the same, but cousin-cars so that just sounds odd...

You gonna call around and see if any other companies will pick up your account?

Well I did get a quote of 2300 yoyo, but in Ireland they dont really want to insure big engines. So if you're between 17-24 years old, you cannot get insured on a Ford Focus RS, Nissan Skyline, Toyota Starlet GT, BMW 2.2L+ Basically all the big engines above 1.8 is nearly impossible or too expensive to get insured on. This country is too expensive.....I was thinking of moving to the US if I got a decent job offer and could get some mates on the band wagon......then just buy myself an SVT focus and most likely get a very cheap insurance quote. how much would an SVT be for the equivalent of what I have posted above and how much would insurance be?

Not really. Brand new in 2002, a base ST170 was almost €24000, and this one sounds like it has more more options than the base.

ha ha, over here the Smallest engine an american make offers is a 2L the smallest engine in a non-hybrid is a 1.5, i think its odd that your country considers a 2.0 to be big, cause here your average car has AT LEAST a 2, however its usually more along the lines of a 2.5-3.5
