Hau's leaving SVT...

REPORT: Ford SVT's Hau Thai-Tang headed to Brazil
Posted Feb 20th 2007 8:02AM by Chris Shunk

Ford Motor Company has decided that Hau Thai-Tang has done such a splendid job with SVT that it was time for a promotion to head Ford of Brazil, the automakers's most profitable global market. Brazil has been great for Ford mostly due to the success of the EcoSport, which reversed share declines, but was deemed "too basic" for American tastes. Thai-Tang is continuing to live the American Dream, and we wish him luck with his new post.
Many of you are likely questioning what will come of SVT, which currently includes only one product, the Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500. As a matter of fact, there isn't even an SVT in the name of that one either, but we digress. Thai-Tang's right hand man Hermann Salenbauch, who was once the head engineer for then BMW's Land Rover unit, has been mentioned as a possible SVT Director. Either way, without products and without Thai-Tang, SVT's future looks more cloudy than ever.

So there you have it, more uncertainty for Ford's performance brand. This is a great move for Hau... he was probably tired of Ford ignoring his department.

iNteresting. All I say is Dodge has SRT, Chevy has SS, Mercedes has AMG, BMW has M, doesn't anybody notice a hole in the market for Ford. I have heard SVT isn't profitable, but can they atleast have a hign end version of some cars? Shit, the only focus engine available in 08 is going to be the 135 horsepower version. CObalts come stock with 151 horsepower, which at the moment is the most powerful FOcus you can get. I don't get it really.

Well, maybe with new(er) blood coming into a seat of power on SVT he will be more likely to push for a true product lineup. I mean if the Caliber can be an SRT...

Yeah! Another "bold move". Did anyone ever see the episode of the Simpson when Homer designed a car?

yeah, they take one of their best guys and move him to a market that's already profitable... makes perfect sense! I believe Ford is doomed...

How do you know that if they put this guy in as head of NA Ford that he would be able to change things for the better? It's real easy to say, "well just plug this guy in and all will be well with Ford."

ford is all about the family it looks like. they arent in the market for sports cars, but want to make family sedans and "gas savers", and they do well in it. just because the focus is doomed doesnt say ford is. they have the mustang to fall back on... for now. hopefully they will get with their sences and make a nice sporty focus again, but if they dont get the srt-4 or cobalt ss, or go import.
