05 and up are duratec

the svt has a zetec with better internals and with upgraded intake and header

not really sure about the difference between duratec and zetec other than they are flipped around.

Quite simply put, Ford phased out the Zetec in 2004. All Focus models 05+ have a Duratec engine; a majority have the 2.0L and the STs have a 2.3L.

Technically speaking, the engines are backwards. The Zetec has its intake on the back and the exhaust on the front, the Duratec is the exact opposite. Also, the Zetec has its name printed on the valve cover along with the Ford logo and "16V." The Duratec has a big ugly plastic valve cover and a tangle of wires running all over it. Aside from that, they're pretty similar, both have the same firing order (1-2-4-3) and the block layout is nearly identical. The Zetec has slightly stronger rods and crank but the Duratec is more robust mechanically speaking, for example it has a timing chain instead of a belt and its factory head flows more freely than the Zetec's.

The SVT Zetec had a higher compression ratio, free-flowing head, larger valves, VCT, forged rods, oil squirters and a factory 7200 RPM redline (up from 6600) in addition to coming from the factory with a free-flowing exhaust and dual-stage intake, all adding up to 170 BHP and ~145 TQ. They also had a dual-layshaft, dual final-drive ratio six-speed Getrag transmission, stiffer suspension, larger front discs and rear disc instead of drums. It had a mild bodykit that made it stand out from the regular models...both bumpers were different, body-color matching door handles, side trim, mirrors, sideskirts, rear spoiler and all came with one of three varieties of 17" wheels, depending on the year or options. Inside, the seats were either similar to standard seats with leather trim and had red or blue inserts that matched the door and rear panel's inserts or came with leather Recaros, steering-column stereo remote control, auxiliary gauges for oil temperature and pressure, rear seat headrests and a few other luxury items. I think that's everything...although I'm sure a SVT owner or two will have something to add
