carfax is a JOKE.I currently own one vehicle that was in three serious accidents, the last one close to a total.NONE of the incidents show on carfax(all were reported to the insurance co.).I own another car that was stolen twice before I owned it and those incidents don't show up.My wifes personal car has been in two serious collisions where the damage was over 4k each accident to repair and,you guessed it,nothing on carfax.I have run it on many vehicles I have bought and unless the thing fell off the Empire State building, was run over by a Abrahams tank, then summerged in a hurricane for a month,it probably won't show on carfax.Best thing to do is have someone who knows what they are looking for inspect the vehicle for you.carfax is the biggest scam going today.

I agree 100%!

I am also a big fan of the '94-'96 Impala SS. I know I know, night and day cars; one a huge V8 boat and the other a I4 Eco-car. Anyway being a fan of the Impala also means being a fan of the LT1 powered Caprice. Many of these cars were police cars and taxi cabs. I have found MANY carfax reports that do not show these cars as being used as police and/or taxi units. This is one of the things that carfax promises to uncover, and so often they fail. So I'm with you when you say that carfax is an incredible scam.

However, one piece of reliable info that carfax gives is the in-service date on cars. The date that the car was sold new and the manufacture dealerships give this info to carfax. This is what I was looking for on this car, the original sale date when new.

I also know that a Ford dealership can give you this info, so, since I have not had anyone able to give a carfax on this car, I'm just gona foot it down to the local Ford place and get the info.

Thanks for your reply.

Yea,that too.I wasn't sure if only the '96's came console, but I knew it had the analogs that year only. There was a nice black one for sale recently one town over from me,but it had been slammed HARD in the rear and fixed, but not good enough so I could not find signs.Guess what?Carfax had NO imfo on it ever being damaged;the owner bragged that carfax said his car had no collision history..I had to pry it out of him and then he fessed up..7k worth of damage!!.(left rear frame rail was still kinked...)
