My email to Ford

First read what I wrote:

When I bought my Ford Focus 4 years ago, I thought that it was
a great car. I still love it as a matter of fact. There are quite a few
things bothering me about Ford Motor Company. With the latest news of
Ford's losses, it seems to me that you would want to gain sales. I will
be in the market to buy a new car again and was pretty excited to see that
for 2008, there was a total redesign of the Focus. After reading more and
more about it, the less I liked. I love the styling of the car, but why
are you not offering a hatchback. Isn't the market for hatchbacks on the
rise? Why aren't they going to produce the Focus with the 2.3 liter
engine? That alone made me decide not to buy a focus again. I am a big
fan of American cars and was a big fan of Ford before, but I'm finding it
more and more difficult to get myself to buy another Ford. Without
knowing what is happening behind the scenes in the corporate offices, or
knowing what the engineers were doing, and looking at this from a total
consumer point of view, why would people want to drive this focus over
other cars. Ford sync - possibly - but I want a car that is going to
perform. I would most definitely think about buying a Focus again if the
2.3 ltr engine was an option. If not by the end of 2008, I would be
forced to look elsewhere. I think the focus will die because of these
decisions, was that the point?

Now notice how the response totally danced around any of my two questions about the 2008 focus. They stressed quite heavily on the 2007 however:

Dear Brian,

Thank you for contacting the Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center regarding the body style and engine options for the 2007 Ford Focus.

In an effort to assist you, we have researched your inquiry. Our resources indicate that a 3-Door Hatchback and a 5-Door Hatchback is available as a body style option for the 2007 Ford Focus.

Furthermore, the 2.3L Duratec 23 16V I-4 engine is available only in the 2007 Ford Focus 4-Door Sedan ST.

For more information on options for the 2007 Ford Focus, please consult the Sales Department of your nearest Ford dealership, or visit:

It seems that they don't want to comment at all about the new Focus. I've read reviews that are less than favorable to this new car. It kills me because I love the way it looks. I think possibly Ford might be shooting themselves in the foot with this new body style and lack of options.

They danced around my email too- they just copied the press release and said something along the lines of "the decision to release performance models is based on blah blah blah, NO 2.3 FOR YOU!"
Im sure theyre having fun with all the negative press and emails lol. Hopefully they will listen.

I would suggest replying back showing them that they did NOT answer any of your questions. I, too, like the look of the new "refresh", but wish they'd kept the hatch options and the bigger motor, also.

I don't think it's worth my time. I guess I was hoping for a "Don't get your hopes up yet, those options are to come in the following years model." I'd wait. I don't expect to get anywhere talking to them further. It sounds like it is, no more 2.3 ltr. There probably won't be as big an aftermarket for that 2.0 ltr as there would be for the 2.3, so maybe I'll buy something different. I won't be trading my focus in either. I'll keep that thing for quite a while I think.

The problem lies in the fact that this abortion of an automobile is past the test buyer stage. They have made their changes and we are stuck with it, but it is important to let them know that it was a mistake and why it was a mistake.
