2.5 duratec is the "easy" one. CDSilver5DoorSVT and his brother built one. They just recently sold it to trainfan, another member here. It was well done and almost looked stock. The trannies are the same if you get the right motor. A taurus SHO motor was also done by them , but that was a "bit" harder.

Well.. first.. visit www.contour.org

And look into the 3l Hybrid, I would definitely make the 2.5 - 3.0 conversion if i were to put a 6 cyl into the focus.. the deck height is the same, all you really have to do is fill some oil passages, etc.

Once that is done, build with the parts they are talking about, I believe Warmonger was one of the persons heading this project up, check the archives, there is A LOT of information on the 3.0 Duratec from the 2.5 Conversion, its an amazing motor, which can be boosted to 400 hp with a crazy amount of torque easily.. I would go that direction.. Just my .02

From what I remember. (I was going to attempt this until I totaled my SVTC)

You get the SVT Duratec 2.5 from the contour, or the SE 2.5 Duratec.
A 2001+ Escort 3.0 Block, and you plug a few oil passages with JB weld, slap some beefed internals, and a gasket on, torque it, oval port the heads, and your pretty much at the 200 HP mark off the motor itself.. There are plenty of Contours still running with the hybrid 3.0’s and making 400+ wheel hp boosted.. so good luck with it..

Another option for that 2.5L is the newer Cougars - there are probably more of those kicking around than C-SVTs. You can put in the C-SVT internals if you like.

Hmm....imagine 3L of V6 in your Focus......although I'm sure you'd have massive torque-steer and control issues if you were to boost the engine anywhere near capacity.

I believe the 99 Contour Sport also has a 170hp D-Tec 2.5.

All the Contours were available with the Zetec 4 or Duratech 2.5 V6 - the SVT had higher compression, some forged internal goodies and made more power.

If you're looking for a donor engine that's complete and ready to drop in, you'll probably want to find the newest and least-used motor you can...which is probably from a 2001-2002 Cougar. The Contour was killed in 1999, so they'll generally have more miles on them.

If you're intending to rebuild and upgrade the motor first...then I suppose the cheapest source is the goal, and Contours (or Mystiques) would provide a good supply.
