460 v8 in focus

would a 460 v8 fit height wise under a stock hood, or would i have to get a taller hood.

That's a bit too tall I believe, so yeah, you'll have to drive hoodless or with some kind of improvised one.

You would have to determine the height of the motor with motor mounts in the bay. This part is obvious to you if you have your main spots picked out or if you bought the V8 conversion kit. Yes, the 460 is tall, but with the right placement, I can see a circular hole in the top of the hood for the K&N 3D and carb. Then get a scoop or make a sheet metal one.

Well, welcome to the dark/slower/hatchback side! As far as a 460 goes, I think it is way too large for clearance issues in the Focus bay. This is what Kugel Komponetns site says

"Q: Which Ford engine will work for this conversion?
A: Ford part #M-6007-B51 5.0L / 302 320HP or Ford part #M-6007-XE3 5.0L/302 345HP; these are new crate engine assemblies less manifold and carburetor. This engine set up is preferred because of the short water pump. If an older engine is used the short serpentine belt and water pump kit must be used – part #M-8501-A50.

I dunno if this is true but I recall seeing somwhere that the Kugel kit will not accomadate anything larger than a 351, you should email them and ask. besides that, what i would do if I didn't have bills or tuition to pay for would be a fully-built 351 stroker, like ebay items #200068913737, but Sweet Jesus Crimminey! ITB v8 focus? Thats crazier than that supercharged SVT V8 Focus

whatever you do, keep us updated because a V8 Focus is seriously the coolest friggin thing out there.

A 460 would be tall I am sure, maybe too long as well. Plus they weigh in at 800 pounds in stock form (switching to an aluminum intake and aluminum headscan shave off a lot however).

The Kugel kit will only work with Windsor series engines (260, 289, 302, 351W). Although you could stroke the 351 up to 400+ cid with a kit from coast high performance. But unless this car is only going to be used on the stip, I would go with a small block.

The point I'd like to get across is isn't a ~300 V8 enough, especially when its installed in a lightweight car like the Focus? I think the only difference between the two would be how fast can you make your rear tires go bald from spinning on launches.

you are basicaly recreating a old AMC gremlin where they would have a massive 5.0 v8 hanging off the front of the car. You basical will create a monster tire cooker due to the lack of wieght on the rear wheels.
This is all assuming that you will be running a rear wheel drive conv.

I would look, sound and just be sweet but in my opinion it wouldn't be that streetable. Unless you had some crazy set up maybe something like a 4 link.

If you do it, I wanna be there
Logan

Don't know if it's any help but here are 2 photo's I took of my 5.0 Focus showing hood clearance for someone else.

It's a stock intake on a 5.0, if you can find the total height of a 5.0 and compare it to whatever you propose fitting then it will show the extra height you need.
I am using a Kugel front engine support in mine.

Measurement is to underside of hood

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/06...8/426a6368.jpg

Paint cans just clear underside.
I've never seen a 460 but that sounds very heavy.
I'm using the stock (long) Mustang waterpump as I am also driving a Vortec of it, and still clear the radiator.
