Ion 3 2.4L or Focus ST 2.3L?

I'm new here and looking to buy a car. I am now looking to buy the Ion 2.4L or a Focus ST with 2.3L (150hp). They are only 1/2 second apart in 0-60 due to the Focus being lighter. I was wondering if anyone has compared these two before and which you would buy and why?

I've done some comparisons before when my sister was shopping for a new car, however it was on the lower trim models.

The Ion's 2.4l Ecotec is a pretty nice unit, as is the 2.3l Duratec in the ST, so its pretty much dead even there. However, I think the Ion's suspension isn't as crisp and refined as the Focus.

The thing that bugs me most on most Ions (not sure if its the same on the Ion3) is that center mounted gauge cluster. I just personally don't like it.

I've driven an Ion, it's a different type of car. Interior feels about on par, aside from the seats. The driveline is not exactly refined, I didn't get to test the handling, dont really like the styling and I hate the gauges. Then again, I bought a Focus, so I'm a little biased.

I'd personally go with a Cobalt over an Ion, or wait for the new, what is it, Astra? that saturn is getting?

Saturns are junk. Get the ST or an SVT.

The new Saturns aren't even saturns. There wont be a lot of them, but they'll be here. Saturn Astra Redline!!!!. It's basically a Vauxhaul/Opel Astra VXR In Saturn Redline trim.

edit: Same with the Vectra, Which I've already seen a lot of. Very nice cars.

Ford needs your money to stay in business... But then again, so does GM.

But seriously, if you're stuck between the two, I'd take the ST for all the aforementioned reasons.

If you're open to options, I'd suggest the Mazda3. Same drivetrain as the Focus and it's no slouch in the corners... but it's no Focus either.

I dont know, it's a tuff choice but I already told you what I thought on the other forum. The 2.4 Ecotec is no sloch at all but niether is the 2.3 Duratec which responds to bolts on's really well. You will also have more after market support in the focus compared to the Ion. Go with what you want.
