Angry Stealership botched Social Security #???

OK, here's a new one.....Have any of you guys (or gals) have this happen??

I tried to make an online payment on my 2004 SVT that I purchased two months ago; I hate sending "snail mail" payments. Imagine my surprise when the Ford Credit site kept rejecting my log-on attempts as "Social Security number is invalid". After a few more tries, I gave up and called Customer Service.

A very polite woman answered the phone and told me that the scanned copies of my documents had a different security number on them. I asked her how that was possible as I was approved for the loan with my social security number...she told me she wasn't sure how the dealership made the typo (it was one number off). Mind you, the stealership stopped returning my phone calls awhile ago when the car was in the shop 4 times in two weeks for stupid warranty repairs, so I wasn't going to get anywhere with them. Ford Credit is telling me to go to the Social Security office to get this straightened out-I think that the dealership should handle this, as they printed out an inaccurate document. BTW, yes, I checked everything before I signed.....after driving two hours to get this car, I was in a rush to just get out and on the road.

I wonder how much time this will take at Social Security to straighten this mess out.

SS shouldn't have to straighten this out nor should you. The dealership should. What is SS going to do about a typo on FMC documents?

^ exactly. the dealership didn't write down the correct number so they should straigten it out. i'd call BBB about it and see if that dealership has any other complaints.

**added**
oh and btw, just noticed you have an 04 svt adding you to the list

Customer Service? She may have been very polite, but telling you to go to the SS office to correct it is whacked. Tell HER to call the dealership and straighten it out....

Smile Lol

Yeah, that's what I figured...theoretically, if the SS# is wrong, then I could just stop paying on it, let them repo it, and it won't effect my Credit.

Guys, the Dealer has been blowing me off for months....NO ONE up to and including the owner has ever returned one of my messages. The only thing I can do is contact the Better Business Bureau; the Attorney General can't do anything about this, as I signed the document in question.

I did find out that the form I need is (1) one page long and should take all of five minutes to fill out at Social Security. Still pissed about having to do this, but hey, I have time.....the car isn't going anywhere (for four more years at least)
