Had a Bad Run in the Police

Ok, before I post I need to make perfectly clear that I don't dis-respect police at all but the ones who are on their power trip get on my last nerves!!!!

Ok Tonight I was crusing down the street from dropping someone off at home and as I came up to an intersection the light turned yellow and it was too late for me to stop, or atleast smoothly so I was actually going the speed limit of 40 and dropped to third gave a little gas and then back to fourth after the intersection and continued at the speed limit and as I came up to the next light I noticed a cop giving me the glare.

So I took off and 2 miles down the road here comes that cop flying up behind me and pulls me over. Two cop cars were there and I had to no reason to lie on why I pulled a 10 MPH speed up... lol So he comes up and INSTANTLY starts harassing me, he asks if I got my window tint taken off which I guess he has seen my car with the windows up before, I dunno. So they tell me to roll the windows up and the one officer gets all giddy and starts literally powerwalking back to his car to write me a fix-it ticket for that. While that officer is doing that the one is still harassing me, with the third officer, making fun of my car calling it a slow ass 4 banger. He said to stop hot rodding around in a FOCUS and I said ok but as I said, I was just trying to get through the light safely not that thats any type excuse but I wasn't doing it to kill someone or to race as he thinks I was trying to do. So after all this trash talking he asks me if I have any modifications and I said yup, sure do, and asked me if I would be so kind as to pop my hood sarcastically obviously so I gladly did so. He looked and asked if I had the high flow air intake on it and I had to make myself look like trash and said that I just went to pepboys and rigged up my own trashy intake because if I woulda said I bought it he was gonna write me a ticket for not have a CARB sticker, so I said, see look, it uses the STOCK MAF tube, it's all pretty much stock except for a cone filter really... LOL So then he proceeded to look around and well most of you know my mods and well, you get the idea but I closed my hood with no problems there...

So after he couldn't find anything wrong with the mods, he said "I see you took off your smoked taillights," which I only did for a few days to polish them up, and I was like yeah but they are going back on and he told me they illegal and I asked then why are there other cars running around with them on and you don't do anything about them??? I said they are going back on I know they aren't illegal because I asked a buddy of mine in the highway patrol and was told they are legal as long as they can still be clearly seen from a certain distance or something like that. He had nothing to say to that.

Sorry for the long post, I am just venting because these three cops were on MAJOR power trips and EVERYTHING I said he took it as me being sarcastic and I honestly wasn't, I mean there were a few questions I was being a dick about but they were still honest questions and he was havning problems answering all of them professionally. There was still a lot more to this like him pounding on my window with his mag-light but I think my anger is out now that I typed it all out...

Thanks for listening to me babble.

Well, let's see here.

Your a young guy ...

Who has a modded car ... (both visually and mechanically)

Which is louder than most other cars (header/exhaust).

And seeing how light/sound does not discriminate, not only will you attact the attention of other Foci lovers ... you will also attract the attention of cops as well.

The "law" of physics.

And as far as using the argument of "well other people do/have the same thing and don't get hassled", that'll never wash. The Law permits cops to ticket/pull over as they see fit.

And that's that.

Concverning his attitude, like in all jobs, there are good apples and bad apples.

For me though (seeing how I'm older, pay only $50 month for insurance, and carry a Fire Dept. Badge) I probably would have told the cop who called my car "SLOWA_ _ " this:

"Your an officer of the Law, and I've been very polite to you. So that comment was uncalled for. What was your reason for talking to me like that?"

And I would have let whatever happened, happen.

Once again (with me driving) my situation would have presented itself much more differently than with you driving.

I am agreeing that the logic of "others are doing it why did you pull me over" is not the best one to take. A buddy of mine got pulled over for speeding, when the cop was talking to him he said officer everybody else was going the same speed as me why did you pull me over.

The cop quickly asked him if he liked to fish.

He said yes

The next question the cop asked was "when you go fishing do you catch every fish"

my buddy didnt reply knowing he was not going to win this arguement

Here's my story, I was pulled over for going 83 in a 55(driving my toyota tundra) I pulled over very quickly, put on my dome light, down my window, and placed both my hands on the outside of my drivers door. This is very non-threating to the officer, I was very polite and expected the worst. But, like the time before I had a slap on the hand and off I go. This trick was told to me by a New York State Trooper. Just a food for the mind ;)

First let me say sorry to hear you were xxxxed with. But, the question that quickly comes to mind is WHY they knew so much about you and your car ?

Individual results will vary. Down here, they want your money, and usually won't let you slide. I play it exactly like that (well, both hands on top of the wheel), and they never cut a break. I haven't had a break since I left Jersey years ago. But its still a good process to follow; you want to make that stop the easiest for them.

next time they look so closely at your car ask them if they are gonna write you up some state inspection stickers since they have so much time and nothing better to do.
