A Couple NooB Questions

My dad had a focus a couple years ago and got rid of it, and now that I am driving I am probably about to purchase one. I love them. Anyways, a couple questions, first off will putting an exhaust system on a focus void the warranty the dealer gives?

And my parents hate loud exhausts, is there a way to put something like this on the focus, but not have it sound super loud?
http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=1733

I know this sounds gay, but I love the look of those mufflers, maybe just my age, but I hait the cheap sounds, rice rocket type deal... I just sort of want that look though, I know it sounds stupid, but is there any way possible?

I was thinking of buying a cheap knock off and gutting the insides, what would that do?

But before any of this, I would like to know what voids the warranty on these cars? Lowering? Exhaust? Rims/Tires?

Thanks for any help, and I hope to be on these forums alot more, and I will post pics of my car right when I get it!

are you buying it new?

the HKS set up is amazing sounding. i love the look.

you wont get the power by gutting it and it will sound like shit.

ask ford what will void your warranty.

also if you havent bought the car yet id look for a zx3 with a 2.3L duratec motor. that would an 03-04. but make sure its the 2.3L, they have the most potential for power. the most suits the car the best. if u cant get that and your going new get a ST which is the sedan with the 2.3L. only focus with that motor made right now. have fun buying a focus

Ok so 2.3l, it might be new or an used one off the lot. I am in Vegas, it is hard to fine a clean running car with a TRUST worthy owner. Usually they tell you what you wanna hear, then get it home and it has problems, its happened twice to us.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you know if anyone has sound clips of that HKS muffler? And to run just that muffler in the link, do I just take it to a muffler shop and have them cut of my end, and weld that on? Thanks again, tons of help already!

that is the HKS exhaust i would go with. you can put the silencer in and make it quiet. but ive heard it in person and it looks amazing and sounds amazing.

ok, here's the dish. Modding your car won't void your warranty. Just becasue you have mods, they can not turn you away. However, if the aftermarket part screws something up, you are SOL. Say you do something wrong setting up the exhasut and it burns a hole in your bumper. Your part did that and they will not fix that. So if something else breaks that isn't related to your exhasut, they have to fix it. Exhasut is a very safe mod however that I don't see breaking anything. With lowering springs, just keep in mind that you will wear out the shocks quicker than with the stock springs. And for wheels, as long as you stay in the 7 inch wide range with an offset of 42+ mm not excessively lowered, you will be problem free there too (no rubbing).
Oh, and the HKS exhsut does sound very nice and deep. I just don't like the look. If you like the look go for it cuz it is a nice system. Good luck

Thanks. I listened to almost all the sound clips, can anyone tell me which one the HKS most sounds like, so I sort of have something to compare it too? And how do I just put the muffler on, not the whole catback system, I am just curious. I probably will end up running a catback, but if I were to put just the muffler on how is this done, you need someone to cut and weld correct?

If you just wanted the muffler on then you would have to go to a shop. They'll cut and weld it in for you. Shouldn't be very expensive.
