SVT or 2.3 Duratec engine?

In short, what is the better engine for upgradeability?

Which one has the most aftermarket support?

Where can we expect to see the aftermaket support for these engines 6 months from now? a year from now?

Which engine is more durable driven daily?

My sedan has the spi, but my intention is to change that soon. I have upgraded to svt suspension and svt brakes so the next logical step is to make it faster. Yay! I would like to go with the svt theme but I dont want to spend several grand on the svt engine if i am going to regret it later.

Thanks for the help FF members!!!!!!!

The 2.3 responds better to mods especially a CAI with average gains of 10 whp.

But then again the SVT responds pretty well to mods also so I don't know. I would go with the 2.3 duratec but I am all about the duratec... LOL

the duratec responds better the SVT is almost tapped out all ready performance wise there are parts for it but the gains are'nt that great. Unless maybe you swap the SVT motor into the car but instead of its 6 speed trans put in the MTX to help it. the 6 speed is geared higher overall its better for autocrossing but the MTX75 is better for drag racing. Or you could just drop in the duratec and put some mods on it. Though the SVT does take to trubo charging very well since it had forged internals from the factory. But the duratec does not it had weak rods for a turbo application. But its all in what you decide but If I had the money I would probably choose the duratec. Hopefully that will help just give it alittle more time and more people will post to help with your decision.

I would turbo charge a duratec way before an SVT. I've seen SVT after SVT have blown motors when boosted...all types of boost. I've personally installed turbo's on two duratecs and both have been running really strong for months now with no loss of driveability.

All this coming from a loyal SVT owner.

duratec all the way. Think of it this way, the SVT is just a base zetec with a higher compression ratio, not too mention, a stock 2.3 has higher torque numbers, if even only by a hair :P

The SVT has a great engine and there is more of a difference than just the compression ration, the head is different, cams, combustion chamber size and shape, pistons, rods, intake.... need I go on??

BUT the duratec has more potential than the SVT once you change out the rods. The head is alot better flowing than the SVT as well.... but the rods are powdered metal and they DEFINITLY need to be changed out if you plan on serious boost.

I know FocusSport has made alot of power on their 2.3..... but there's nothing STOCK in the motor.
