During an oil change the other day...

This is what the bonehead told me:

BH: "Sir, did you know that *this* particular Focus model was designed to have a carbon air filter to help clean the air you breathe in the car?"

Me: "No, I didn't know that..."

BH: "Yeah, apparently it cost too much...so they have the space for eet, but theeey never installed the part!"

Me: "..."

BH: "......You know, we can do it HERE for, like, 40 or 50 bucks."

Me: "Oh...cool."

This filter is supposedly located near the bottom of the windshield, is hepa certified and it only helps to filter the cabin air while doing nothing to enhance the performance of the car. I showed no interest, but after a couple of minutes, he emerged from the back with a large rectangular air-filter and told me that was what Ford left out of the vehicle due to high costs.

Is there any truth to any of what he told me, or was he trying to scam me?

yep, They have it in Europe but Ford had to cut costs so they took it out. I don't understand why we get the crap while everybody else gets the goods.

It's only like 25 bucks though

Thank you very much. The only reason I was skeptical was because he was so friggin persistent, and you hear about this all the time on 20/20. Thanks for the link, if it really does make a difference, I'll install it myself.

Heres the deal, there are 2 cabin air filters.

Motorcraft FP-38 is just a pollen filter

Motorcraft FP-41 is an odor and pollen filter, it has a specially treated filament to keep engine odors out of the passenger compartment.

FP-41 is about $ 10-15 more than an FP-38
