400 whp...why?

Ok,
Let me first say I know all the reasons to have 400 hp. I've had a 400 hp car before. I'd just like to insert a little reality for some reason. We all bench race on this board. Hell it's part of hot rodding. I just seem to be reading alot of threads/responses about having obnoxious amounts of power in your daily driver. Yeah we all would want the "fastest" car so we could dust off anyone stupid enough to challenge us...but this is not reality for most and thankfully so. There are but a few who really have the skills and are responsible enough to handle a 400 hp car let alone 200whp in a Focus. This is not to put anyone down, just to insert a little reality. Hopefully there isn't anyone out there foolish enough to invest alot of money in power without any experience/understanding of the responsibility involved.
Thanks for letting me get this out of my system. HRW

Good points.......I think my ride is worth $35,000 even though it cost $10,000...but just the couple mods makes it fun enough I don't feel like owning a bigger car...........I'm broke anyway....:)

Peace................

i agree with you HWR

It saddens me when innocent bystanders are hurt or killed cause some idiot has more power then they can handle.

In the real world, there is not much use for a 400 HP car. i can understand high hp trucks and stuff for hauling and work. but a 400 hp car is just rediculous. you dont follow differnt traffic laws with more horse power. when my little stock spi is driving down the highway, i can legally drive the exact same speed as any 400 hp car out there. (it just takes me a little longer to get there. lol)

but i guess i understand the mentality. its all about having more then the next guy. the common philosophy is "he who dies with the most toys wins"

no one seems to realize that "he who dies with the most toys, is still dead"

Actually, HotRodWagon, I agree with the point of why have a daily driver that is 400 hp. However, I think my answer would be quite understandable. The reason for putting all this money into my car is because it's a hobby, perhaps a phase. Drastically modifying a car is not a good thing, I know. Although it would be nice to brag about having that much horsepower under the hood, there is only one solution. I am currently adding power to my car, at a rate of probably a few "ponies" a week. Don't get me wrong, I don't modify it every week and my numbers could be off, but just follow me for a second. The way I see it is, I want to push the car and myself to it's full potential. If I ever get to the point where the car feels to irresponsible for me, I'll simply tone it down a bit and start modding it to be safer. The only advice I can give to anyone who just bought their focus (Yes, I know you have had yours for a time, I'm referring to the first timers. ;) ) is take it slow, and get used to the parts you have on the car. That's the only thing I can think is. Don't go out the first day you buy the car, and get the internals done and slap a turbo on. I've only had a few cars in my time, but I always get used to the handling of the car before I take chances. It's like that with every new modification I add to the foci. Hope that explains my reasoning, not to have a 400 hp daily driver, but still put as much as the owner wants.

I'm not against anyone modding their car...just realize the responsibilty associated...the advice to take it slow and get used to the mods is excellent advice

I agree no one really needs a 400hp focus and honestly if they did have one it should be for the track a 400hp daily driver is abit stupid I would like to have about 200-250 hp on mine just so it had a lil more umph 400hp would be cool but a we bit to much for an everyday driver its like if you had a Ferrari Enzo you couldn't drive it anywhere its way to fast

Around here theres people who dont even know how to handle 200hp much less 400! That much power is for hard pulling in a truck or for a track car.

If you have enough cash to get to 200hp then run it. If you have enough cash to get a focus or any other 4 banger to 400hp then that is not you daily driver.. lol
