Better MPG?

My second question in a 2-question series. Right now I'm only getting about 24/28 MPG on my automatic ZX5. From what I understand, I should be getting better MPG than that. I'm putting regular into the tank. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is that 24 city/28 highway you mean? Definitely keep with the regular, going up in octane won't help MPG anyway, but it will lighten your wallet, especially now.

That sounds about right for an auto. I forget what my sticker says, but my car averages 26 mixed, maybe 60%H & 40%C. Do you have your sticker handy? I'm pretty sure the EPA estimates (though flawed they may be), are right near that.

Yeah, it's 24city/28 highway. The EPA estimates put the '02 focus at 26/32, which seems to be significantly less than what I seem to be getting. And what's this about the sticker? I'm confused. Thanks for the help though.

The way the EPA conducts fuel mileage does not simulate real world driving, yet. Depending on how much time/miles your on the highway, I'd say that's about right..

This may sound stupid, but what does 'out of the throttle' mean?

out of the throttle means, lay of the gas pedal. The worst thing you can do for gas mileage is accelerate hard.

LOL, I'm happy to have INCREASED to 22 MPG city. And I hear people saying 24 is too low. That makes my problem seem so much worse, haha. (I'm not saying yours isn't a problem, it should be getting higher than that)

I posted this on another thread but it fits here too. I have been doing this for only a few months, along with a few co-workers. Both of us so far are getting a 10% increase. Doesn't sound like lots but every tenth tank is free!!
